Twyford reverses National’s flawed methamphetamine housing policy

Phil Twyford has shown this new Government has a brain as well as a heart by halting National’s ridiculous state house methamphetamine policy where the presence of minuscule traces would result in eviction even though there was no proof the tenant was responsible and he has apologised to Robert Erueti for the harm caused.

People of the Year

Time has named participants of the #MeToo campaign its people of the year. So why hasn’t the movement taken hold in New Zealand the way it has in the United States?

English still whining

Surprise surprise – Bill English is still whining that 44.4% should really be counted as 50.1% – and other snippets from Parliament’s post election conference.

Making official Information flow again

“Ministers realised they had a device through which they could reduce the surprises they suffered. And, as it went on, the surprises ministers no longer wanted to experience became greater in number and smaller in significance.Increasingly, it placed on the public service a political imperative which it had never had to shoulder. “

Deranged Golriz Syndrome

David Farrar has continued his crusade against Golriz Ghahraman with a claim of 15 instances where she has by implication deceived us.

Tenancy Stuff.

How’s about private tenants in New Zealand were warm, dry and secure? Too big an ask?

The chaos of the Trump White House

From tweeting fake anti muslim videos to supporting the Senate race of an alleged child molester who was banned from a mall because he was so creepy to acting to remove his Secretary of State for thinking that he is a moron to passing a bill that will help the rich and hurt the poor while denying this is the case the Donald Trump White House is a chaotic place.

Phil Quin: our media’s goto dogwhistling Aussie

It always disappoints me in NZ is who our local media consider are ‘left’ or ‘labour’ commentators. They are usually strange and weird relics of left behind who frame their commentary in terms of long past history. Phil Quin, a grizzled veteran misogynist of the 1990s Thordon Bubble who thrives on chaos and ill informed dog whistles, is one of them. It isn’t like he knows much about NZ politics. Updated.

Up the spout, round the bend and down the tubes.

It’s no longer really working out (kicking the AGW can down the road), but we seem to be hooked into a peculiar form of madness even as everything appears to be coming apart at the seams. It’s beyond me…

Appalling men and great art

There have been some great artists face some appalling allegations.  Would they have been as successful if their great crimes had been exposed?

National spams the Beehive

National has been clogging Parliament’s written question system by asking questions that even David Farrar thinks seem silly and are over the top.

Invisibill

The media have noticed that Bill English has recently been missing in action.  And pretenders to his throne are starting to play up.

Doofus of the week – Nick Smith

No competition in this one, Nick Smith for showing that despite the 27 long years he has spent in Parliament he still has no idea how our electoral system works and for claiming there is an electoral convention that simply does not exist.

Social Democracy is still alive

With socialist governments in rapid decline right across the world, and just a very few social democrat governments re-emerging after many years out of power, it’s useful to remind ourselves of what governmental combinations are working well.
