I finally got to have a go on the City Rail Link yesterday afternoon.

I hope you all get to have a go.

Auckland really can choose the alternative future it needs.

Why I'm not giving my vote to any of the coalition parties:

National has just come out with a massive bribe to the rural sector. Todd McLay is peddling the myth that NZ has plenty of water and it should be gifted to farmers for irrigaton schemes (along with $300 million of taxpayer funds for low-initerest loans): https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/politics_election-2026/1803343/national-woos-farmer-vote-with-300m-low-cost-loans-for-water-storage

It's the same old stuff that David Carter pushed when he announced $80 million for irrigation fuding in Jan 2013: “New Zealand naturally has plenty of water – this is about managing the resource better for the economy and the environment.”

The environment is not there to prop up the economy. But legislation rushed through recently to replace the RMA is designed to make economic development a priority. National hasn't just moved the goalposts, it has removed them altogether.

The Right lack wide imagination. The environment doesn't exist to prop up the economy, true. But that is what National have imagined for it. They could then go further to the idea that the people, citizens, are here to prop up the economy, not including themselves as people though. And as citizens help with their resource to make a more efficient serving of the wants of the economy.

Climatic effects will hinder and detract from the fruitful running of the economy, also diseases and lack of a rational health system will affect the human resource negatively. But if more deaths these can become useful 'stepping stones' for the economy. If tombs above ground as Jewish people do were built along the coastline, end to end, dead NZAO people's graves above ground, would create a stone buffer wall between the raging, rising sea and the helpless, vulnerable land. So turning a negative problem into a national opportunity, (using good business nous), and engraving each tomb with the person's name, giving status of patriotic citizen for the good of the country, even in death. and have annual services to honour such people, similar to Anzac Day.

Now that's future thinking for you and not irrational as with any sort of new political party or meme we still have the damage from the 20th century fuckwits to deal with, the waves will rise and people will die. The lesser number left will be wise if they internalise that we all are fuckwits to some extent and if some sort of civilised existence will be possible, have to keep referring to that thought and comparing ideas and plans next to the Thoughtful, Thought-through, Practical and Kindly as possible, measure.

Winston Peters vs David Seymour: their 15 most venomous insults, ranked [The Spinoff, 25 Sept 2023]

Why can't Winston First and David 'Derangement Sydrome' Seymour get along?

Maybe Atlas-ACT candidate Paul Henry can broker a peace deal – he and Winston seem to be more on the same 'wavelength'.

Refers to Paul Henry's being stood down and consequent resignation after his provocative style went too far and he was accused of making racist remarks on two occasions in two weeks; the first was when he asked PM John Key whether the next Governor General would be a New Zealander, would look and sound like a New Zealander, (the current GG is Sir Anand Satyanand who is NZ born); and the second remark was when Henry joked about the name of the Indian Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Winston Peters’ comments to Lawrence Xu-Nan make headlines around the world [The Spinoff, 31 July 2026]
It [Global Times] added: “Peters’ remarks were neither an accidental “slip of the tongue” nor an isolated case. This is not the first time Peters and his party have been embroiled in controversy over racist comments. From his deputy Shane Jones’ criticism that a free trade deal with India could risk a ‘butter chicken tsunami’, to the remark of ‘sending the Mexicans home’ directed at a Mexican-born MP, and now Peters’ personal attack on the Chinese-born lawmaker, a pattern of politicizing ethnicity and immigration issues has become increasingly evident.”

Hope everyone caught Edmonds and Willis agree to work substantively on NZSuper today.

That's a million kiwis breathing a little easier.

More to come, sure, but its a whole bunch better than politicizing the sole income of 60% of retirees.
