Here is something that might raise spirits. The Herald has carried out a poll of the Mt. Roskill constituency, that National won from Labour by a narrow 1564 in 2023.
The Herald poll results for the Party Vote compared with 2023 are as follows:
Labour 2023 29.8 2026 36.7
National 2023 43.1 2026 21.6
I'm aware that it is notoriously difficult to poll constituencies, but even so these results, if they are in any way close, are excellent. National's party vote has halved, Labour's party vote has gone up 28%.
This is in vote rich Auckland. If Labour is performing well in Auckland that could bode well.
