Discussion on political leader PR.

A comment from veutoviper has a go at the prevelant myth that Jacinda Arden has been using her family for PR points. As veutoviper points out by looking at the NZ Womens Weekly that Simon Bridges appears to have a much higher profile with his family washing. For some reason our political misogynists appear to have a double standard.

The SPOTY’s 2018

Here’s your chance to vote in the Standard’s Politician of The Year awards. The SPOTY’s are recognised worldwide as the leading indicator of political success in NZ and have been awarded annually for over two hundred years.

Now it’s your turn to prick the Thorndon Bubble, dear reader. Who’s your Politician of the Year?

National’s Sroubek fizzle

National are trying to manufacture a conspiracy out of revelations that someone who knows Karel Sroubek and has met Jacinda Ardern sent her a text.

National’s dead cat strategy

National has attempted to drown out news of further leaks, bad poll results and a reference of Maggie Barry’s behaviour to the Auditor General by staging a big stink in Parliament.

Double down – protect parliament – ban Bridges for a month

Simon Bridges appears to have deliberately maligned the position of the speaker of the house of representatives, and did it before he had any cause to do so. While he may think that it is in the public interest to do so, he isn’t special. He should expect what every other social activist knows will happen. You suffer the consequences..

Judith is getting ready

Judith Collins appears to be ramping up a leadership campaign using Fox News type references to climate change, social change and young people.

Bridges Billion dollar bungle

Simon Bridges has claimed that Labour’s Kiwisaver fund is $18 billion short of the amount needed to meet the Government’s goals of constructing ten thousand Kiwibuild houses a year.  The claim has as much credibility as National’s claim that Labour’s budget figures had an $11.5 billion hole in them.

Another day and more Simon Bridges f*&k ups

Simon Bridges has in the last 24 hours blamed Labour law changes for increasing rentals but has forgotten which ones, and has disagreed that an apology is owed to the families of the Pike River miners on the 8th anniversary of the disaster.

Proxy Music

Jami-Lee Ross has passed his proxy vote to NZ First, elevating waka jumping to an Olympic sport. How bad does it have to get before the Tory caucus puts Simon Bridges out of his misery?

The Jami-Lee tapes

Newshub has released a further Jami-Lee Ross tape which contains a promise by Simon Bridges that if Ross stood down for health reasons he could come back in the new year and be promoted.

Eye of the storm

Simon Bridges thinks that he is past trouble caused by the Jami-Lee Ross incident.  But the way things are developing he may be in the middle of things.

Nothing to worry about

National thinks that it has weathered the storm caused by the Jami-Lee Ross revelations and it has nothing to worry about even though the Police have gone to the Electoral Commission.  And Simon Bridges has been in touch with Cameron Slater.  What could go wrong?

Bridges loses connection with reality

Simon says that the economy and government are failing, not him and National.  Last week made him stronger.  And improved everyone’s mental health.

Also black is white and the earth is flat.

Pollwatch: Colmar Brunton, October 23rd

In this triumphant return of Pollwatch, we discuss the increasing likelihood of a Labour-Green coalition at the next election, the security of the two smaller list parties’ tenure, the shocking 2% support of Simon Bridges’ handling of recent political events, and the split in the shadow-race for National Party leader.

Uncharted Waters

Trevor Mallard is grappling with the implications of Jami-Lee Ross’s status under the Mental Health Act.

Everything is awesome

National is trying to say that everything is fine with Simon Bridges’ leadership, that he has handled the Jami-Lee Ross crisis well and that his leadership is assured. I beg to differ.

Jami-Lee Ross: But Wait, There’s More!

Jami-Lee Ross has twisted the knife a little further into Simon Bridge’s back this arvo, releasing a second tape and announcing he won’t be quitting Parliament. Turns out he may need the income to fund a divorce.

Two Chinese are more valuable than two Indians

The repercussions of Jami-Lee Ross’s expulsion continue to be felt.  Disclosures about complaints regarding Ross’s behaviour are difficult to reconcile with what Bridges and Bennett have said recently. And National’s relationship with ethnic groups has taken a battering.

No smoking gun but plenty of sunlight from Bridges tape

Maybe not a smoking gun, Jami-Lee Ross’s tape recording of Simon Bridges sheds plenty of sunlight on the influence that money can buy within the National Party, casual racism endemic within National, the manipulation of ethnic communities and, most importantly, insights into the wielding of “soft power” by China.
