Bridges loses connection with reality
Simon says that the economy and government are failing, not him and National. Last week made him stronger. And improved everyone’s mental health.
Also black is white and the earth is flat.

In a welcome move by Labour to relieve energy poverty on those with fixed, low incomes, all beneficiaries (including pensioners) are to get up to $700 extra automatically over winter.
National obviously hate this.
You can stop the silly chat now media – the Greens can’t go into coalition with National because of their members, their social polices… but mainly because of their environmental policies.
Mark Jennings: ‘A hundred or so young Chinese wearing blue T-shirts with “Blue dragons” written on the front marched in to the stadium in a highly-organised fashion. I randomly asked two of them why they had come. They seemed to find the question confusing but told me they were overseas students.’
Policy idea for any party: Can we please keep making Aussie govt MPs citizens until they give NZ citizens in Oz the rights to education, health & social security they should get under CER? Oh, and a vote. Best blackmail EVER.
National are going to send our most “hardened” youth offenders to the Army to be trained up. If that fails, they’ll send them to adult prisons to learn their craft better.
Newshub reports a surge in nominations for Metiria to be the New Zealander of the Year.
I just love this idea and would encourage others to nominate her too.
Steven Joyce wouldn’t front yesterday, but today National have worked out their attack lines. Leave popular Jacinda alone and attack Labour as tired and lacking in new ideas (projection, much?). Labour has a raft of new policy, to go with needed older one’s like 2013’s Kiwibuild of 100,000 affordable homes. Journos need to learn their policy so they don’t let National’s fake news through…
It’s a busy news day, so… Government axes Lifeline contract. Yes, we still top the western world on youth suicide. We still have […]
Andrew Little has stepped down – expects Jacinda to replace him.
English: “in this world of diplomacy each word matters”. Brownlee expresses regret that he “used some language that perhaps made that less than clear” – and is getting schooling from his Ministry.
The same study that trumpeted Wellington as the most liveable city in the world, has Auckland as the 3rd most expensive for Public Transport, behind London and Dublin.
Bill English has premiered at 25% in TV3’s preferred PM poll. Even incumbency can’t make Bill look popular.
And a return to the politics of division by Blinglish…

Labour-insider Key talks to the Herald while expressing no confidence in his candidate (the one standing at his shoulder); Leggett legs it; and National shoot down kiwi businesses, kiwi workers and kiwi tenants.
Not a bad day’s work.
Whose going to be added Parliament on Saturday? It should be Michael Wood, but his competition is Misa Fia Turner, who looks an even worse candidate than Parmjeet Parmar.
Meanwhile, Parmjeet is trying to claim she’s the local one!
According to the deficient newshrub on Saturday night there was a distinct lack of support from Labour for the Mt Roskill campaign. In reality 4 buses carrying more than 200 door-knockers including all the Labour MPs other than Little, went to Mt Roskill on Saturday afternoon.
All the best to Michael Wood, who got a great reception on the doorstop.
Already number 4 for housing unaffordability, we’re now number 1 for house price rises!
There are different views on The Standard about growth and whether we really need it. But here’s one bit of growth that really seems pointless to me: that achieved only by increasing the number of people. Because if we’re only increasing GDP by increasing the number of people, as we are currently, we’re loading up the environment and we’re not even individually getting any richer for it. Thanks National.
So National’s appointed ECan (undermining democracy since 2010) has decided that leading business man Hugh Fletcher & Chief Justice Sian Elias shouldn’t be fined for their cows sh!ting in a lake. National were accused of taking voting rights so they could favour dairy over Christchurch, and this seems a good example. Canterbury has suffered enough – it needs democracy back.
So John Key and the new Oz PM are having a chat today and good ol’ JK will be mentioning the issue of “New […]
There’s a hard-hitting piece in the Herald today – from Jarrod Gilbert on how National has lied to the country’s face and got […]
Who’s willing to help those suffering in Iraq & Syria now, Prime Minister?
Astonishing release late on a Friday afternoon (dump time!) that the police will not be pursuing any action against Slater/Ede for hacking Labour’s website. Given a whole year to investigate, they didn’t manage to find out how to spell Nicky Hager or Tim Barnett’s names.
Bill English tells us that the promise that they won the election on – that they’re the only Masters of Finance who could balance the government books (because that’s all that’s important…) – now isn’t at all important to the public.
And Bill tells us: they’ll get their surplus when I give it to them, and they’ll be grateful for it.
We haven’t cut their funding, there’s just been a change in their contract = We’ve cut their funding $4.8 million
John Key is now arguing that black is white – that a Tax on Capital Gains isn’t a Capital Gains Tax.
“Typical politician” many will say – and that shows how far John Key’s skills have fallen.
Not satisfied with setting records for biggest deficit and largest total deficit over term, the Key government is now going for most deficits in a row. They now look to equal the National government’s 7 deficits from 1966-72. And this is the stuff they want to be judged on…
Paddy Gower and Duncan Garner don’t understand our electoral system: “that’s MMP”. By-elections are pure First Past the Post – and that’s why Andrew Little didn’t need to do a deal, and Northland doesn’t stink like Epsom.
Perhaps John Key should consider a Churchillian thought before he rushes to send our young to die in Iraq.
Would John Key be making reference to terror attacks if Haron Monis was not from the Middle East? Our PM has a track record of jumping the gun on sensitive international issues…
rOb somewhat scooped me, but here’s my twitter round-up of the reaction to the PM’s office releasing the texts last night.
Yesterday’s 2 reports are even worse for what they managed to conclude inside their scope. What was outside their scope shows things even more interesting.
