So Stuart Nash is goneburger.
It seems that even a party full of shock jocks has standards.
He made deeply disparaging and untrue comments about his opponent National MP Katy Nimmo and has clearly been forced to resign as a NZ First candidate.
I have had a bit to do with Stuart over the years,
He is the guy who while writing for The Daily Blog accused this Blog of being a bastardisation of a once proud Labour broadsheet. Bradbury has since deleted all of Nash’s posts but thanks to the Wayback Machine you can still read it.
Rereading it I am still struggling to understand what he was saying. He was upset I think because he had won the seat but members were less than enthused. But as I pointed out at the time vainglorious electorate campaigns in an MMP environment where electorate seats are won and the party vote goes down are a waste of time. And he only won because of the presence of a Sensible Sentencing Trust candidate.
I have documented his career in the past. In this post I noted that in 2015 he was implicated in the hiring of Simon Lusk of Dirty Politics who wrote a report on the formation of a centrist party.
Nash said he torpedoed the idea and did not know about it until the report had been prepared. Troy Bowker who funded the report disagreed and says Nash told them to see him when the report was completed.
He rose to be a cabinet minister but found the role difficult. He managed to:
It was then revealed that in 2020 Nash emailed two of his donors, who were commercial property owners and including Troy Bowker, about a commercial rent relief policy Cabinet was discussing. This was in clear breach of the Cabinet Manual which said “discussion at Cabinet and Cabinet committee meetings is informal and confidential”, and that any proposals “likely to be considered at forthcoming meetings, outside Cabinet-approved consultation procedures” are not allowed to be disclosed.
In his email he said “I am as annoyed (and surprised) about the final outcome of the ‘commercial rent relief package’ as you are”.
He was sacked and not given the chance to resign.
He thinks he was hard done by. I beg to differ. All that I can see is a clusterfuck of a political career caused by a series of self owns.
He recently claimed that the Labour Party left him and not vice versa.
Labour used to stand up for those that work the hardest, now they stand up for those who complain the loudest. Labour built the first state house, now they defend those who trash them.”
This is an interesting comment from someone who was fired from Cabinet for divulging confidential information to two of his donors who happened to be commercial property owners. And someone who while a Labour MP had a fundraiser organised by Matthew Hooton at that bastion of working class politics, the Northern Club.

The first education policy that Labour announced is that boards of trustees once again must give effect to the treaty, to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi,” he said. “How does that drive educational attainment?
He should learn about the Labour Relationship with the Ratana Church.
I also suspect that this claim is bullshit. My googling suggests that this is the release of Labour’s policy for the 2023 election at an event that I actually attended.
Respect for Te Tiriti in education was mentioned. Along with a number of other policies. It may have been first but first in the sense that it was one of dozens of policies announced that day at the same time.
I don’t think that Micky Savage and Peter Frazer would be turning in their grave at the news that Stuart Nash went to another party.
I think they would see him for what he is. A careerist with really awful views of women.
And it is not as if his recent comments about Katy Nimmo are new.
A year ago he said that a woman “a person with “a p…y and a pair of t..s”.
He would be totally relaxed about NZ First’s bill to define a biological woman.
This is the most stupid piece of legislation I have seen although the attempt to define English as an official language of Aotearoa is pretty close.
Christopher Luxon relished the chance to give NZ First the middle finger and said that Nash would not serve as a Cabinet Minister in a future Government. How he can tolerate Shane Jones telling him to take off his knee pads and not this takes a lot of processing. But Nash’s comment gave him the chance to look tough as soon as he could see the public opprobrium that Nash’s comments caused.
It will be interesting to see what effect this has on NZ First’s polling and I suspect that Katy Nimmo’s chances of retaining Napier have been significantly improved.
But for now I think that all wanna be politicians should realise that there are minimum standards of behaviour and commentary that should be respected. Even if these standards are pretty low.

My reckons are that NZF gave him the push because he's too much of an idiot to have in the party. I doubt that the sexism would have been enough reason, but that he was just so utterly wrong about the facts, and that he texted his ill conceived thoughts, you can't have that kind of poor judgement in an MP or candidate.

Nash did exhibit a classic opportunistic stance though, so we can see where he's headed next. He may have to submit to a crash course in ethics, public relations, some kind of psychotherapy that exorcises knee-jerk machismo, etc, to appeal to the oppos.

Seems like he was reporting gossip instead of reality. She had 10 weeks maternity leave, not 9 months. Real men don't gossip. They just do the macho posturing bit.

Nash and Peters resonated but more than that, Peters saw Nash as the perfect foil to Jones, the classic Laurel and Hardy pairing.
Immature, impulsive, poor judgement skills, no sense of propriety and delusions of grandeur. In short, a narcissist.
Nash didn't really have a chance to learn how to behave. He spent a long time as a Labour MP where anything was acceptable to the leadership and the media ignored anything bad that he might have done.
If he could have stayed in the Labour Party he might have got away with it for ever. After all, no matter how appalling Mallard's behaviour was his leader excused things by just saying that was only Trevor being Trevor and blamed whoever Trevor had attacked as being to blame. Nash would never have learnt to behave properly with that example being displayed and now he has been bitten without anyone to cover for him now he isn't in the medias' favourite party and without a leader who would ignore what he gets up to.

As usual, you’ve got trouble seeing the dots in front of your eyes, so let me help clear up your confusion.
Gnash was no longer fit-for-purpose as politician and NZ First’s vetting failed miserably (or succeeded admirably, depending on your PoV). No doubt Gnash got influenced by the heavy presence of Old Spice and many musty jockstraps in the party and this caused his inter-cranial brain to fail and his extra-cranial brain took over. I suspect he was further encouraged at being authentic by the frequent shoulder rubbing & back-patting by his new mates & bros such as Blue Shane and Michael Laws (aka peer pressure).
In the end, Gnash did the right thing, and he fell on his dick.

Hey! The name 'Nash' is revered in the Labour party but remember they got rid of Stewart when he proved his unsuitability. NZ!st will take on anyone but even they have their limits.

Fair enough, Toby Manhire is a decent reporter.
I over-generalised but it is frustrating that so much coverage is taking Luxon's performative posturing seriously. I'm pretty sure most journos – indeed, most people – know he's fake, but they keep pretending his words mean anything.
Not one NZF minister has faced any consequences for anything they have said, while National ministers have been demoted or sacked for less. And everyone knows why.

As I said on OM, Luxon is a posturing pimp and a (moral) coward. Gnash had the audacity to pick on a National MP and once the path was clear(ed) for Luxon he lambasted.
Gnash was, of course, not an NZF minister but a mere NZF candidate. Luxon wouldn’t dare to declare war against his Coalition partner by firing a current Minister – it would be a Trumpian move of sheer strategic stupidity.

Here's an idea, a simple one. Rather than punch down at women. You address something which affect all to many women VIOLENCE because here is the real issue.

The main aim is self aggrandisement and/or enrichment by manoeuvring to exploit local culture wars.
They all have a monarchistic, post democratic concept of politics tinged with appeals to those who rather fancy a fascistisation of our politics.
