A good outcome for Nicky and family, but it shouldn’t have happened. Three years of tension because of police errors. And surely the Police knew the rules.
So who told the police that it was OK that they knowingly could hammer a journalist in such an outrageous way?

    1. 1.1

And surely the Police knew the rules.

Of course they did. All indications are that their actions against Hager were politically motivated.

Same as the leaking of WP’s personal details also seem to have been politically motivated.

What a day for Korea. People are going to be very happy. They have signed something and agreed on something and will do something. We will see a major change. Well done.

Did you forget to add the (sarc) sign?

The world’s two most detestable clowns (one old, one young) have a little soiree and sign a bit of paper. Do you really think anything long term and substantial will come out of it? What’s the bet this time next year North Korea will be pointing their nuclear arsenal at the US of A and Trump’s chumps will be directing their nuclear arsenal towards Nth. Korea with a view to obliterating them.

Listening to our own chumps on TV1 this evening only served to highlight for me that the world has definitely gone to hell in a hand- basket.

Edit: I’m reminded of British PM, Chamberlain and his little soiree with Hitler in 1939.

Great day for trump too. All the doom sayers and rabid loons on the left owe him an apology

On another note, I see kiwibank / nz Post is closing four branches. Strange from an soe under this government

Trump and Kim agreed nothing that hasn’t been “agreed” before. I’m disappointed, but not surprised, that your need to follow Dear Leader has overridden your critical faculties.

Meanwhile, I have an exclusive report from the face-to-face meeting.

Kim: “Putin sent me a copy of the pee tape”.
Trump: “So what? He has less economic clout than Australia and his military capabilities are a joke. Now let’s discuss how we can profit from human trafficking”.

      2. 3.2.2

Wouldnt get too excited….Trump is likely to recant during a 3 a.m. tweet….not that theres anything of substance to recant

        1. 3.2.2.1

Oh tosh , … the Donald and Kim are making overtures… stop your worrying. Here’s whats really going on…

Unfortunately even Ministers of the Crown have to work within the constraints of the current Law. Eugene Sage details the considerations wrt to the sale of the land here. As can be seen, they have made strict provisions wrt to the sale of the land and the requirement for the increase in jobs for NZers from 8 to 32, if not met, the company can be forced to sell. Furthermore it is not yet a done deal, the sale is provisional upon the granting of resource consent from the relevant local authorities and if that is not granted the sale does not proceed.

      1. 4.1.1

Understood but that law has to be applied and judgement exercised.

60 jobs over four years when the expanded plant is fully operational is not “substantial and identifiable” benefit to New Zealand.

A sad day and a lot of people will be deeply unhappy with this decision. I am bitterly disappointed. How do we stop this madness?

    I think she is serious(?!)

Judith Collins criticising Phil Twyford for pausing while criteria are being reviewed to ensure the right people are prioritised.

“He’s cancelled having people being checked to see whether or not they are still eligible once they are in a house to remain in a state house, which means actually people could end up earning a big income or have a big inheritance adn still be living in a state house needed for someone else.”

Yeah…those big income earners are springing up everywhere in the rockstar economy.

I think you will find that National’s plan was to have people take turns in state housing, ie, you get 3 years in a state house, then you move out and spend 3 years on the street, and someone else has a turn, and then after 3 years, they go back on the streets.

The revolving door policy last Saturday morning I counted 20 people sleeping on the footpath in Manurewa Town Centre ?

      1. 6.1.1

They may have got $82m dollars richer but they didn’t make anything or add value to the world.

        1. 6.1.1.1

Exactly – and made it on the back of their position in the White House.
They are only there to enrich themselves.

            1. 6.1.1.1.1.1

Perhaps you could explain to a simpleton like me just how they they are similar to the Clintons? If you are referring to the $US 225,000 speeches – well they at least waited until they had had left Public Office. And the scale of the troughing by the Trumps is out of all proportion to that of the Clintons.

          1. 6.2.2.1.1

And all this while holding the position of public office as POTUS.
I know some people find it difficult to understand the concept of public service these days – but really!
There are a number of on going legal challenges to the Trump teams sense of entitlement and riding roughshod over the emolument clause of the Constitution but as everything in the US legal system these things take time.

Trawling Hansards today I have a new level of respect for the knowledge and commitment Sue Bradford displayed.

Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un commit to working ‘toward complete denuclearisation’

Thats the headline, BUT that is not complete as it is only NK and not the US (the only country to have used nuclear weapons in anger)

      1. 8.1.1

        Any moment now.

My bet: he’ll claim the G6 plus one leaders tried to sabotage his meeting with Kim Jung Loo (or whatever his name is). 😉

      2. 8.1.2

Probably why he left early. More time to tweet revisions.

Seems like a fast way for Singapore to get rid of 20 million. Host two idiots doing a mutual face save.

But that appears to be the only thing that is different compared to the many previous talks between DRNK and USA

    1. 8.2

The Armistice that ended the Korean War had a no nukes on the peninsula clause- which the US broke ( NK didnt have any at that time of course)

So are just back to 1955. Doesnt seem so as its just an agreement to mumbo jumbo. Sanctions remain nothing changes for people in South Korea along the border, but I suppose they have more hope as Im thinking a stronger bond between North And South will come out it and far more easier to negotiate.
Wonder if the high powered radar for ballistic missiles that US located in the South will remain as China was very concerned about that.
