The criticism is well deserved! My membership lapsed at that time although I had a soft spot for Lange. His break for a cup of tea during the height of Rogernomics was perhaps the one thing that saved labour from extinction.

Would have probably been better if Lange had forced the issue and caused a real split at the time. It just happened a few years later anyway, and those years between 1987 and 1993 when the Act party finally formed were horrendous.

When he looked back on it 5 years later I bet that is exactly what he thought:

wish I’d totally cut them loose.

Lange tried to do just that – force the issue – but the Labour Caucus (majority vote) voted Roger Douglas back into Cabinet. Not much else for Lange to do except resign.

I think this might be time to blame the Greens, they’re into all the touchy feely nature stuff after all.

Nigel Farage (historic?!) speech to Alexis Tsipras at the European Parliament – Leave Euro Now!

Very interesting how the (considered) extreme left and right have much in common against the Extreme Neo-Lib institutuons! Do you have Merkel’s speech which Farage referred to? Couldn’t find it, after a quick search.
