Is Melbourne epidemiologist, Tony Blakely, the worst epidemiologist in the world?

He advised New Zealand to let Omicron "wash over us" in an interview with Heather Stupidity-Allen on the radio this afternoon.

How's that working out for Queensland? Before they let it rip, Queensland recorded 7 Covid-19 deaths.

    Now it's 247.

Stupidity-Allen introduced Tony Blakely as her favourite epidemiologist of the pandemic. Not only does she trivialise the human cost with that quip, but she promotes a policy which will lead to misery for vulnerable Kiwis and their families.

Heather don't care, and she's having a baby. How irresponsible is that?

noooo, that award still goes to the plan b jerks.

No idea what Blakely's on about. Maybe he wants to swing by for a visit or sabbatical, lol

we are not having any crime and the coppers are bored. It can't be anything else.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/127678928/police-fly-helicopter-over-couples-home-to-spray-three-cannabis-plants

A Coromandel couple were having dinner when police flew a helicopter over their property to spray three cannabis plants.

    ……

A police spokesperson said in general, the cannabis recovery operation concentrated on large-scale commercial growers.

“However, as this work is often conducted in remote or rural areas, and from the air, smaller cannabis plots can naturally be sprayed during the discovery phase of flying operations.”

Police would not comment on any “specific matters” relating to the operation, the spokesperson said.

yeah, me too i would not comment on the costs of flying a helicopter fully manned to spray three plants. What a huge commercial grower they just took out. Well done Coppers of NZ. Well done, you surely earned your brownies.

All in the name of fun and the war on drugs. lol, but then imagine if we had a lefty government with a full majority that would tackle these issues. Surely any day now.

But honestly i'm waiting for the Act or National to simply run on a promise to decriminalise weed, and regulate the growing and retail of the product, inclusive medicinal and recreational. Because L has painted itself in a corner, thanks to Andrew Little (where is Andrew Little btw), thanks to Jacinda Ardern too – after all she had no opinion on this matter- lol lol lol (she kneecapped dear Chloe so badly there that G will never touch that touchy subject ever again imo) that they actually can't do much unless they really don't mind anymore if they come across as opportunists rather then pragmatic thinkers and doers.

Who will it be? N or A? I think it will be Act.

In this noisy, troubled world if anyone is looking for something lovely and serene to watch, I recommend the Royal Albatross Live Cam in Dunedin.

These birds are intelligent, beautiful and so gentle. They are indeed the royals of the bird world. The parents chosen for the live cam this season are incredible. They are so in love with their little white fluffy chick and the rangers gentle and caring. Here is a taste of what you would see:

Cheers Anne @ (4). Will do.

I have been told the best time to view the Albatross' feeding their chicks is when a storm is brewing. That's when the parent birds head out to sea to get as much food for their babies as possible, before the storm hits. Beautiful creatures and so graceful as they glide back to their nests. The Fleetwood Mac music Albatross comes to mind when I see them. So appropriate.

They mate for life and only breed every two years – one chick at a time. It gets funny around June/July when the chicks are well out of their nests and start to wander around checking on the other chicks' nests. But woe betide if, when they return, another chick is checking out their nest. There's a great clamour of clack clacking and wing displays but they never physically attack each other.

Keas! I remember the Lake Mckenzie hut on the Routeburn track 45 years ago with a sign on a wooden box outside- "Kea proof boot box"!

Today my walking companion who has a dog with similar fixations- 'Where are my boots?"

I did the Milford track 45 years ago mac1. We climbed a mountain half way and there waiting at the top was a row of Keas. The eyed us up and down and took a close interest in our backpacks and the watches on our arms. We were warned not to put anything down on the rocks etc. because if we did they would be gone in a jiffy.

Known by the Keas who believe in Cargo cults as "The Great Bling Time". I managed a photo once of a kea at the point of snatching a wee morsel from just beyond my outstretched hand. Having seen what a kea beak could do to the vinyl of a motorbike seat I was still risking it a little.

Fabulous birds. I see some smart operators have trained crows to pick up cigarette butts in exchange for titbits as a Swedish street cleaning strategy. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/feb/01/swedish-crows-pick-up-cigarette-butts-litter

Many years ago somewhere in Fiordland, while on a tramp, came across a toilet near a hut which some incautious tramper had left the door open to. Toilet paper was draped all over the surrounding bush, and none left in the toilet.

Kea's had had a lot of fun.
