Didn't you know Robert, that making money is more important than the climate.

The most chilling thing in the age of climate change

A capitalist was once someone prepared to sell the rope used to hang them.

In the age of climate change a capitalist is someone knowingly prepared sell the rope to hang his grandchildren.

An 'emergency' or a 'concern'. You decide.

Climate Change: Why is it so often “sooner than predicted”?
June 18, 2019 by Kollibri terre Sonnenblume

….how often does a climate change headline or story use a phrase like that? “At levels not expected until” or “faster than expected” or “sooner than predicted”? I opened a search engine and started plugging in these and other variants to find out. It didn’t take long to answer my question: regularly, as it turns out.

Here are a few examples, from 2014 to the present….

P.S. Thanks for the leadership Robert, much appreciated.

Disappointing. The most worthy causes can be some of the toughest ones too. A tree that gets battered by the elements becomes weathered and strong and produces many offspring. Kia kaha, Robert.

Thank you, all. Batterings from my fellow councillors, I'm well used to and shrug them off. The uplift from the community, however, has been exhilarating! They came together and saw for themselves where the problem lies. The game has just begun.

I am not renewing my passport. Somehow the idea of spewing out CO2 in order to drag my aging carcass round the world for ultimately trivial and forgettable 'experiences' seems like a reprehensible theft of the future from the young.

        Thank you for trying Robert.

The stupid is strong in Southland. I performed to a rugby crowd in Invercargill once, spent the whole time deflecting hecklers. Crappiest show we did that tour, but they thought it was the best time ever.

Up here in the civilised world hecklers STFU or we taser them.

No climate emergency declaration, but we feel as though we're on a winning run – wonder how that could be? smiley

On the right side of history. I half-heard the PM discussing the possibility of govt declaring a climate change emergency, think it was earlier yesterday. Sydney did it the other day, I heard on the news. ScoMo must have been consternated.

Belief systems are like monocultures in ecology. Dissenters in Southland haven't yet got the numbers to shift the status quo, that's all. Crisis, what crisis? is a powerful syndrome because most people base their reality on what local culture tells them so `it can't happen here' is embedded in their subconscious until climate change local effects become evident.

Incidentally, before Zappa's Mothers of Invention made a pseudo-rock song out of it (1966), the stance was a novel – warning Americans about fascism (1935)… https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/17/books/review/classic-novel-that-predicted-trump-sinclar-lewis-it-cant-happen-here.html

I failed to renew mine years ago AB. Been there, done that… and see no point in repeating the experiences just so that I can say I have.

Don't go into any building or on any structure made of concrete, greater CO2 emissions than fossil fuels.

Cromwell's an odd place. Every cycle it goes like mad and almost gets there, then crashes down to nothing again. It could be the administrative and service centre for Central Otago, Queenstown and Wanaka. But it's in Central Otago district, which is administered from Alexandra, and about the same distance to Wanaka and Queenstown (roughly, very). Tradies and professionals based in Cromwell will work in all three towns.

About 10 years ago the good burghers of Cromwell decided the best thing for the town was a motorsport park (racetrack) on the edge of town. Right where their town would logically expand. Which is all good because all the tradies that are doing well out of all the activity around them are having a great time going down to Highlands and thrashing their toys around the track.

So Cromwell gets to be a boom bust town for the foreseeable. Which it really has been forever, and really in the big scheme of things, may not be all that bad.

But from when I lived there working on the Dam, I've seen Cromwell as a potential giant that could have ruled all of Central and the Lakes.

What a great similarity of bad, irrational behaviour in these images.

Thank you to the person who found the 1930's one to match with the present – thank you Joe90.

Re Katie Hopkins' rant the comments are revealing.

All I can say is imagine England without immigration!

No Celts, Romans, Vikings, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Welsh, Scots, Irish, Norman French, no German or Dutch aristocracy,……..

No towns like London, Whitby, York,

No names ending in -gate, -thwaite, -chester. No names starting with Mac, Mc, O', Fitz,

No tea, potatoes, spices, Swiss chard, French perfume, Welsh rarebit, no poulet, beef, mutton, venison, pork, no lard, Worcester sauce or any other sauce for that matter, No port, sherry, whiskey, wine, Guiness, lager,

    As the Bard wrote,"sans everything"!

All that's left are barrows, henges and fish……………

How old are you? 8! How long did Trump leave you in a cell after he heard about your incarceration? Too long. Trump brings America into disrepute. Christian Conservatives can't vote for him and claim to protect family values. They haven't much moral authority, but that would be the nail in the coffin for any claims of morality.
