You’ll never walk alone

Just spent a pleasant couple of hours in “The Goose” in Walthamstow watching Liverpool outclass Spurs 4-0 to go top of the Premier League table. I’ve supported Liverpool since I lived in England in the late 1960’s.

Nobody gave them a chance at the start of the season. Now a porous defence has become an 11-person wall.

What a difference good strategy and management can make – what showed today was how it engenders belief, commitment, determination and the willingness to work for each other.

They’ve got good songs too.

So you’re saying it’s just a matter of time before Labour hit their straps???

Or is this purely a football thing?

I suspect it’s an analogue for NZ. ATM NZ is under poor management and that we need to change that to good management to get ahead.

Of course, I stopped believing in the Cult of the Manager a few years ago. If we want everyone in NZ to work together then we need to have them engage in governing NZ.

So Labour should import a whole lot of foreign players and managers, pay them astronomical wages and set about creating a culture of thuggish tribal devotion ?

I couldn’t be a supporter of any club who’s only interest is paying really exorbitant salaries to people for running around a paddock so they can win a sliver cup, now if they put a good portion of that back into the youth of their region I might have a different view.

Its the TV companies that for the exorbitant salaries. And thats what they get, highly paid players running around a paddock.

I am disappointed in Spurs. I know they don’t show up for big games, but they could have given us (chelsea) a bone and at least held Pool to a draw. I know our woes are our own fault of not being able to beat the easy-beats, but still…

Spurs issue is one Daniel Levy, the charman and Joe Lewis’s (owner) right hand man who hires then fires before any meaningful change can occur which can take a few seasons if you want to challenge the big boys.

It’s a reasonably good squad with a muppett called Timmy as manager currently so the beatings are predictable as Timmy’s a tactics wasteland where Brendan Rogers learns from his mistakes.

Timmy was too scared to look at a video of the last beating Pool gave Spurs before that game so hardly top drawer management material.

Point that I am taking from this is don’t get discouraged (re Labour and the Election).

We have good management and good strategies (and I would distinguish between the cult of management and good management) and good strategists.

We also have some very good policies and some people capable of implementing those policies.

I am optimistic Labour can win.

I would have to disagree, Team Labour consists of a New manager, a couple of a Top class players who are tying to do everything but not really working together at times, a few journeymen, some talented younger players and handful of slightly bitter former stars that are hanging on for grim death trying to re live their ‘glory days’
      Bit like Man U ….

    That just leaves the song.

Maybe You Aint Seen Nothing Yet? by Bachman Turner Over Drive

Or Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mr Key?

Who do you think you are kidding Mr. Key,
If you think we’re on the run?
We are the ones who will stop your little game.
We are the ones who will make you think again.
Cause who do you think you are kidding Mr. Key,
If you think old (Labour/Greens/Mana/IP Party/NZ First) are done?

I wonder if the Labour Party could adopt a few songs to lift sagging spirits?

    Working 9 till 5
    Working Class Man
    Civil War (Guns n Roses)

In all seriousness if they could get the rights to You’ll Never Walk Alone it would be a great song for a Labour election campaign.

I have very high spirits and am very optimistic that the Left can win.

I was thinking more of a song for National…………..Carol Baker-Sayer’s (I think that’s her name)

Your moving out today…………..”pack up your rubber duck, etc, etc Your moving out (of the Beehive) today”

Glad you like it. Might even re-design the lyrics, but of course keep the bit in about the portrait of the Queen.

I am thinking, “Pack up your shokey smile, pack up your top draw file….pack up those dirty crooks and how you cooked the books………..”

        Keep on you’re doing well….

Incidentally, just so you don’t get confused by a comment on royalty from me one day, I don’t mind the Queen. I see it as a choice between some political lackey or some wealthy notable probably made money selling liquor, toilet rolls, or gambling or some actor straight out like Ronald Reagan or part time like Obama, Clinton and Bush v the Queen and she and the very human royal family win over the PR cardboard cutouts. They will probably start building them on printers soon in the USA.

    Steve Allen’s “Join Together”?

    We’ve got to join together,
let our laughter fill the air
It’s time for every race and creed
to throw away their every care

Finally sports makes it on here. When I read redalert (before being abused by Maltard) Grant was always up for some BlackCaps banter. And my beloved golf usually gets misconstrued by NRT and Karol.
LFC may have their planets/stars aligning and their very own SAS may match the original SAS.
LFC couldn’t have scripted the weekend better… Chelski lose and Gunners draw with City. City still favourites with two in hand.
I reckon you know the answer to this pub quiz special if you are a real LFC fan… which 5 teams have won the modern premiership?
Labour have as much chance as Scunthorpe. But they still draw loyal even tribal (wince – DC’s words) supporters.

    Aint it grand.

First Man Utd, then Spurs !!!

My favourite club of all time wollops my two least favourite clubs of all time in quick succession. Doesn’t get any better than this. …..Walk on……Walk o-o-o-o-on !!!
