Sexism, babies, and our assumptions about work
It’s 2015, and we’re constantly told that sexism is over, feminism has had its day – so why can’t this woman find a job?

A short history of The Standard – Maoriland Worker
I saw earlier this month that typically the bombastic one from The Daily Blog Bombast was managing to not mention our site name in a post about hiring a hacker to crack into our site. Of more concern was his lack of local history. Is he too in love with his own voice to learn the lessons of the past?
NRT: Self-serving redactions
I/S at No Right Turn. The un-redacted Cabinet papers show that Key flat out lied when he tried to implicate Labour in the Saudi sheep scandal.
The Best of British; The NHS, the Welfare State and David Bowie
Massive anti-austerity marches have just ended all over Britain. Tens of thousands of protesters have turned out to let the Tory government know that the fight against the right has not ended with the general election. Welsh singer Charlotte Church told the crowd in London that she is proudly British, but for all the right reasons.
More flooding
All the best to those affected by the latest round of flooding.
Kiwiblip!
Either Kiwiblog had a very large social media blip (one million page views in a day is pretty high), or something is really wrong with Sitemeter, or there is a irritating bug somewhere bloating the numbers. I’d like to know one way or another, as I’ve had to deal with some strange spikes like this in the past and they are tricky to track down.

Edwards on politics and the media
It won’t come as a surprise to any Standardista, but it’s good to see Brent Edwards being up front about some of the systemic problems in politics and the media.
The NRA is a terrorist organisation
In the land of the free and the brave the NRA is trying to say that the way to stop incidents such as the Charleston Church massacre is to have more guns. And the right are trying to dispute the reality that the incident was caused by racism.
National running short of coalition partners
There’s a lot of chatter about the Conservative Party at the moment, but the Nats are the only ones who have a reason to care.

Curtains for Colin Craig’s career?
The Conservatives have called a press conference this afternoon and it appears that Colin Craig’s tenure as leader may be terminated. But will he be back?

Iain Lees-Galloway: how many meathooks to the head will it take?
Some strong stuff from Labour’s spokesperson for Labour, Iain Lees-Galloway, in Question Time yesterday.
More Nat infighting
Williamson lashes out at Bridges. The Nats would usually prefer to handle this sort of conflict behind behind closed doors.
Bridges scandal
Another Nat scandal to add to the list. Rob Salmond demolishes Bridges.
Keep on rocking in the free world
Donald Trump has attracted adverse comment for using Neil Young’s song “keep on rocking in the free world” during his campaign launch. There are a number of other examples, both local and in the US, where right wing candidates have misappropriated progressive musicians’ music for campaign purposes.

Enter Sandman
Nathan Guy reckons he knows what killed hundreds of kiwi taxpayer funded lambs in the dodgy Saudi Arabian model farm. Believe it or not, this time it’s not Labour! No, it’s the Sanding of the Lambs.

Bye Colin?
According to 3 News Colin Craig is to be rolled as leader of the Conservatives. Hard to imagine, as Colin Craig is the Conservatives.

#Sheepgate the cabinet papers
The Sheepgate cabinet papers have now been released and show no sign of a legal dispute between the Saudi Sheep farmer and the Government, let alone one that required a payment of $4 million dollars. And there are concerning reports that three quarters of the ewes on the “model farm” have died.

Scary programmer
As some of you will be aware, I’m a dedicated computer programmer. So the Underhanded C Contest is just fun. That is to write code that is as readable, clear, innocent and straightforward as possible, and yet it must fail to perform at its apparent function. To be more specific, it should do something subtly evil. This years winner really takes the cake on that.

Shocking news I think you’ll agree.

The death of trickle down economics and the mess we’re in
Trickle down economics is pronounced dead by the IMF. Housing, the working poor and the economy – the policy settings are wrong everywhere.
