Even if that were true, he did it with more of a percentage of votes than the nat supplicant parties did in 2008, 2011, and 2014.

        Gotta love democracy, eh…

      Thanks for that information, Cinny.

As stated in this article this is a first call procedural hearing but it will be interesting to see what comes of it. Winston* will not be there as the NZ team of the PM, Peters and Parker are now in Manila for ASEAN Summit for the next few days; presumably it will be a lawyers only hearing.

      * or ‘Mr Peters’ as Jacinda Ardern calls him – yet to hear her call him Winston but I may be wrong.

Here is a Herald article updating what happened at the first call hearing in the Auckland High Court this morning.

      http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/news/article.cfm?c_id=280&objectid=11943446

After lawyers for both sides said their piece (lawyers only were present), the article reports that:

Justice Anne Hinton has ordered a draft claim be submitted to clarify Peters’ plan.

She also ordered an affidavit from Peters, after Henry said his client had been “slightly busy”.

“Since the election we haven’t been able to get near him,” he told the court.

The case will return to court on March 5.

Since Peters announced the legal action last week, media freedom groups have warned it could have a chilling effect on political reporting.

National’s Bill English, Paula Bennett, Steven Joyce, Anne Tolley, Ministry of Social Development chief executive Brendan Boyle, English’s former chief of staff Wayne Eagleson, National party staffer Clark Hennessy and journalists Murphy and Lloyd Burr have all been named in the case.

All National members deny involvement in the leak.

The Stuff article you linked to has also been updated after the hearing.

Gotta love Jim Jefferies. In all probability fake news, so avoid if anything that challenges your well defined liberalism upsets, or offends you. Just shy of 6 minutes.

So the Dunedin citizens-owned chocolate company is floating on pledgeme this week.

Started by trying to take over the old Cadbury’s factory to save some of the jobs, but much of the plant had already gone. So the plan is to build around a pre-existing business, invest in new plant, and split the lines between the gourmet chocolate currently made and confectionary.

It has an interest goal for structure and management – no major shareholders who can overrule the others, and return most profits to the company rather than shareholders profit-stripping the business. The objective is a long term concern.

But in Northland courses that would help train people into jobs that would help the region and advance business and employment there are being cut – lack of funding!!! Help Northland get on its feet please – the Triolition. The government can think smarter and help the polytech find a way to interact with the students
    and get results.

Objections growing over Northtec’s plans to cut courses

    Listen duration 4′ :10″

The chorus of objections is growing in Northland over plans by the region’s polytech to scrap its degree courses in arts, sport and recreation. Northtec in Whangarei says student numbers have dropped, funding’s under pressure and it has to retrench. But critics say it needs to think smarter.

Here’s a chance to put your money where your mouth is! Support NZ business, by supporting them to get started, and then if they are running successfully, support them so they can’t be bought out by alien interests of moved from Dunedin. This follows the previous news item from Northland where the idea of regions building businesses on their strengths and abilities will be the way forward to getting a healthy economy going throughout NZ. (Not concentrating on Auckland and leaving everywhere else to trudge along behind.)

    http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/national/343655/fancy-a-bite-of-a-public-owned-chocolate-company
The idea is to develop a model for community business ownership which would contribute to regional development.
“We want to attract as many $100 investors as possible, so we’re limiting the total any one person can own to 11 percent so that no single investor can dominate,” Dr O’Malley said.
“The constitution of the company will also prevent it from moving its production outside of Dunedin.

If you feel like a little light relief from the heavy discussions etc about TPP-11 negotiations, North Korea etc, here is a colouful pomp and ceremony video from YouTube of the NZ team and Jacinda Ardern’s arrival and formal welcome in the Philippines for the ASEAN Summit.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7aZ5nnv1aw (short)

And a longer video of the arrivals and group photos for the Gala Dinner with the usual ‘shirts’ – this time cream Philippino shirts. Quick views of Jacinda at 18.40, 20.30, 21.25 and 22.00.

Will the Green’s opposition be limited to just voting against it?

Which is futile as National have already stated they would give Labour the numbers.

Or will they also publicly apply pressure on Labour to withdraw?

On a side note (thus if anyone wants to continue this part of the discussion, do so in open mike). From your link:

“This is an area which was flagged during negotiations, and we’re comfortable that this is an area the Green Party will disagree with the Government on. That’s the diversity of this coalition.”

Makes one wonder if the diversity of this coalition extends to other potential disagreements, such as the Greens speaking out against Labour for not increasing core benefit rates? And if not, why not?

[TheStandard: A moderator moved this comment to Open Mike as being off topic or irrelevant in the post it was made in. Be more careful in future.]

    1. 14.1

Do you think Labour were only comfortable with this as they knew the Greens merely voting against would mean little when it comes to getting it through?

And for the Green’s, looks as though they are playing their part on behalf of their supporters? Although knowing, voting against it will achieve f-all.

          1. 14.3.1.1.1

Inclined to agree with Robert. The Chairman’s concern is simple but touching in its apparent sincerity. Yuk.

Actually, I hereby move a vote of no confidence in this so-called chairman who persistently concern-trolls after pretences at being a real leftie.

        1. 14.3.1.2

I’m sorry to disappoint you, veutoviper – it’s easy enough to do when being flippant on a blog and I suppose my comments were unnecessary, having been made many times before by other commenters. I don’t find The Chairman’s contributions convincing, somehow and like Greywarshark (below) don’t feel right after reading his comments; perhaps I shouldn’t. I’ll make more of an effort in the future.

I think that Robert is reacting to TC tendency to put a negative spin on everything.
Is that so Robert. Somehow I always come away from TC comments feeling just a little down, a little dirty. I shouldn’t be so senstive I know.

Cos our govts think you do anything for money and pretend social miracles will follow. China has not improved its human rights since the WTO admitted yet we were told exposing them to our enlightened ways would rub off…

      1. 15.1.1

Actually thinking about it; I believe Trump secretly may have welcomed the sign – at least if the dossier revelations are true.
In which case, she and her partner should have been offered 5 star accommodation at a Trump Hotel!

When Nat supports cry ” the economy. The economy.Growth. Growth” they might want to explain how a nation with successive years of growth in the decades, with a recent “rockstar” economy the type of stuff outlined in this article can be happenibg?

We should be under no illusions Nats knew this was hitting crisis point but did nothing. Charter schools are not the answer cos even more teachers needed given their lower student/teacher ratios.

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11943478

I note one of the Charter Schools now wants 100% bulk funding like public schools but none of the regulations. The school is under pinned by Christian values.

I do not support taxpayer money going to any education organisation that mixes religion with education.

” The school does not have formal religious education but the Christian ethic and worldview is a foundation to all of our teaching. The children feel comfortable being challenged on their thoughts and challenging others (including staff). ”

    https://www.southauckland.school.nz/dir/index.php/home/frequently-asked-questions/

If their education model is strong then it can continue without the christian stuff and challenging discussions around religion and concepts like evolution (science based) and creationism ( a notion written in a book of parables)
