Lights out San Francisco

Lights Out San Francisco is a citywide energy conservation event next scheduled for March 29, 2008.

On this night, they invite the entire city of San Francisco to install one compact fluorescent light bulb and turn off all non-essential lighting for one hour.

Below are a couple of shots from the event run four days ago. What a great idea.

yeah, I think you’re right insider. Of course, if it makes people think and gets them to act by putting in CFBs, that’s more important than using els power for an hour.

Most of the pictures I’ve seen were taken specifically to show some giant monument or something with its lights off – you’re right insider.

From a distance it’s probably hard to tell from a small photo exactly what the scene looked like from closer anyway.

I’m inclined to agree with Sam though, if it’s primarily a consciousness-raising exercise, good on them.
