Kiwibank should be funded so finally the Govt operating account will be with them as was originally mooted at their founding. There has been noises about this for a while:

Australian-owned bank Westpac has been the Government's main bank since 1989 and will remain the exclusive provider of Crown transactional banking services to 35 core government agencies until its current contract, signed in 2015, expires in 2023.

But Westpac's reign as the Government's banker could be nearing an end, with the much smaller (and state-owned) Kiwibank about to be groomed for the role.

Won't happen. Kiwibank needed ACC and NZSuperfund to get a majority shareholding because without them they wouldn't have been able to recapitalise.

Kiwibank will never be able to swallow something that size. Kiwibank are less than 5% of the NZ market despite all the patriotic fervour to its advertising. Westpac are a huge part of our market.

There were vague rumours last year that Kiwibank's shareholders would have a go at buying BNZ. Bad luck. Buying Westpac would be multiples times in magnitude to the BNZ, so nah.

Westpac may well be the total shitbags that the RBNZ paints them to be, but they are a dominant part of our banking system. Westpac selling off would be to our banking system what Tiwai Point leaving would be to our electricity market: years and years of massive adjustment.

It's not hard to predict that within 15 years there will be zero physical branches left of any bank anywhere here. Then all of that patriotic fervour will be for naught really: it all becomes just digits on your screen.

Can't see how not having branches changes who you choose to bank with. People choose Kiwibank because who owns it not cause pretty green branches.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300260810/covid19-guests-face-28day-miq-stays-after-being-put-on-bus-with-positive-case

Stuff has spoken with three guests at the Grand Mercure who shared a bus to an exercise area with a man from the United Kingdom who tested positive on day 12 of his managed isolation stint.

The guests were initially told they would only have a few days tacked onto their stay.

But on Wednesday afternoon, an official called people who were on the Saturday bus, who were set for release that day or earlier, and said they'd be remaining at the hotel until April 4.

The official explanation, according to the guests, was that the case had not sat in his designated seat for the return journey.

Because they couldn't confirm where the man sat, everyone on that Sunday was being treated as a close contact.

They are now required to complete another full 14 days in managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ), according to a matching account of the phone call provided by the three guests, who do not know each other.

Officials found out about the man's positive test while the guests were at the exercise area in Mt Albert, but he was allowed back onto the bus to the downtown isolation hotel.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/homed/housing-affordability/124647654/onebedroom-home-seeking-offers-over-745k-sells

A one-bedroom house in Wellington seeking offers over $745,000 has sold.

On Wednesday, Steve Farrell, an estate agent with Ray White, confirmed that the property had sold, but would not say how much for, or give any further details about the sale. He then ended the phone call.

    …………………..

The 42-square metre Miramar house, at 46 Camperdown Rd, was described as “perfect for busy singles, or couples” in the listing by real estate group Ray White.

Our David is not David Seymour.

David Seymour would post under his own name, he's a politician. And our David is several levels dumber than David Seymour which in itself is not a bar you want to be measured by.
