Jonathan Coleman concedes you would have to be ” mentally ill or a drunk person ”
to be a National supporter in response to question about person offering bribes to vote for National in Northcote. Just in on NZ Herald site.

sorry labour you lost my vote to top with your irrigation tax , it was either wedge politics or shoddy rushed policy , if you were serious it would have been all farmers or added to milk cheese etc at point of sale.

b – you were never going to vote Labour – get ye to your whatevery and clasp Bill to your wizened dugs (hat-tip, Willy S.)

go fuck your self dick head you know nothing , the hatred of farmers comes of you like flies shit , ive voted labour the last two times , but they offer nothing new and they stoked the fire with their stupid policy

The way it went Ardern could’ve said “peanut butter” and some idiot would’ve had a headline saying “Ardern to ban peanut butter.” Then all sorts of mental defectives would’ve attacked her, calling her Peanutcinda or something equally childish.

Ardern’s mistake was mentioning anything to do the environment, the economy, the future, infrastructural developments, students, housing, health, climate change, education and in fact anything. Doom merchants like that harridan Boag would’ve been invited onto all and sundry media to say the world would end if any one pronouncement came to fruition.

Especially drawing attack would’ve been any suggestion at doing anything like discussing or having multi-faceted working parties with the idea of have cross partisan solutions to our problems and the needs for our development.

BW I ask you not to consider that the policy is hatred for you and yours its a penalty to the worst offenders in an environmental sense.

The $ values are pretty much chump change and aren’t in any way affecting viability of farmers – I understand that you may feel specifically targeted – but please accept it’s more about the environment than it is about farmers.

I am a member of the sub-human species known as a beneficiary which has massively targeted by ruling powers for many years. Please be tolerant I do appreciate your input.

Adding at point of sale creates other issues – we’re talking >10c per item, which will have no impact on behaviour at all while adding extra paperwork to small shops. If part of the plan was to discourage farms from using water in the first place, then hitting them directly is the correct method.

A Big Heads up to “The Standard” for providing a forum that has kept me mostly sane these last few years.. tumeke !

And to the administrators, the Authors and the Moderators, (I haven’t fully worked out the “Back End” yet), but sincerely Thank you All and appreciate your views, your time and your efforts and commitment to facilitate this.

All at a toll, a cost , and a sacrifice to your personal time, and your friends and whanau.
    ki ora,

To the numerous commentators here….I have enjoyed the diversity of ideas and views and the knowledge shared on this site. I’ve been stimulated, and informed. Along, I’m sure with others, and the numerous readers on this site.

The last few months have been intense! An acknowledgment is long overdue!

Thanks JC. It’s great to see the place so vibrant currently. I’ve been enjoying the increase in the more in-depth comments and also seeing new people turning up.

Great site. Even better without the worst of the trolls. Divergent ideas are useful but the trolling diminishes.
My thanks also to the moderators, writers, and to Mr Prentice for making it possible.
Wonder he would accept a knighthood for services to democracy?

      2. 6.2.2

        No. Thank You!

It’s great to see so many new contributors, and further readers, (Lynn’s analysis).

        A huge movement for change!

        Bring it on!

Well said JC, At least we can come on here and see a good bit of down to earth common sense and learn a lot by the information volunteered by a lot of highly intelligent and well-informed contributors. Even the right wingers and trolls are of a better quality than some of the contributors on other forums which I will not name with their rabid ranting cretins.

Well , … it was a toss up between Auld Lang Syne for the Lefts benefit ,… or Bugger Off ,… so lets celebrate instead the demise of National with that instead. Played it last time ,… still 100% applicable.

National do a last ditch dirty politics effort. A few hours before it becomes impossible for anyone to refute this, Tracey Watkins publishes an opinion piece,

“It has been assumed NZ First will hold the balance of power if neither National or Labour and the Greens have the numbers to govern. But senior Nats have told Stuff – don’t rule out an approach to the Greens instead.”

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/opinion/97161362/National-says-don-t-rule-out-an-approach-to-Greens-on-election-night

National know that no such deal is possible, so the only thing I can read from this is that National want to scare voters away from the Greens. Pathetic, but useful to see Watkins willing to be part of it.

“Greens co-leader James Shaw is seen as being more of a pragmatist by National.”

Yep, but not in that way. Here’s a post from 2015 that gives several references for Shaw saying no way to a deal with National. It also shows how it’s not Shaw’s decision but has to go through the members (who would say no).

I’ll just get this in before Election Day Blackout. – Jacinda Ardern said this morning that the last UMR has Labour just 1% behind National

Suggests a swing to National a week ago & a counter-swing back to Labour over last 3-4 days

y Blackout. – Jacinda Ardern said this morning
