A reliable indication of a protest's strength and relevance is who wants to be seen with you – and who does not. Politicians like photo-ops and votes.

Groundswell today: Brian Tamaki (0.16% of the vote) joins them in Auckland.

But where is David Seymour? Stuff's live coverage reports:

ACT leader David Seymour said he has a "pretty tight" schedule so probably will not go out and meet the protesters.

"Some other ACT MPs around the country have met them, but mainly met them at the start of the protests where there hasn't been so much difficulty with some of the hijacking I've heard about."

When asked to explain what he meant by hijacking of the protest, Seymour said his understanding there was "some other groups with other causes that have tried to get on the bandwagon, so to speak".

He understands an old lesson. If you want to get on a bandwagon, make sure you're in the driver's seat.

This bandwagon has veered so far right, even David wants to get off.

Correct. Anyone who is still in denial about these people should take 3-4 minutes to watch the reports from the 6 pm news on TV1 and TV3 respectively.

Most of the signs being waved were from "Voices For Freedom", the well-known astroturfers. Easy to spot them: always the same familiar colours and messages unrelated to emissions and climate change (Covid vaccines etc).

        More accurate stuff headline:

"Stuff reignites name calling feud with VFF. Oh.. and look over there – a nazi! Doesn't provide evidence… Wait, there was a farming protest??

"woke hivemind" at work here, this is a job he should of had over Benson Pope, and with the later it good to see he's slipped down the rankings. Maybe we get to see monies spent on more important day to day problems.

Watched Mallard's valedictory this afternoon, well worth catching.

I was saddened to see that nearly ALL the Nats were absent, how petty was that.

I have watched many valedictories, including from the gallery, and this is the most blatent snub I can recall.

I watched it too, and had the same thoughts.

When considering Mallard and the Nats, it's worth recalling 2018 and the leaking of Simon Bridges' travel expenses, which first kicked off the war between Bridges and Jami-Lee Ross.

The Speaker inquired into the matter, and concluded that the leak came from inside National's caucus. But National wanted to blame the Speaker, or Parliament staff, or Ardern, or anybody else. Much distraction dust was thrown.

Much, much later we found out Mallard was entirely correct. It was, of course, leaked by JLR. (His lawyer even admitted this in the recent trial).

National have never forgiven the Speaker for telling the truth while they did not. They've hated him ever since.

National have never forgiven the Speaker for telling the truth while they did not.

It pains Gnats to tell the truth – another Key legacy. Self-interest makes them fundamentally untrustworthy (e.g. Jami-Lee Ross, Barclay-Boag-Walker & Woodhouse, Falloon, Merv from Manurewa) and unsuited for power – dirty and hollow.

LOL back as her boyfriends father is banned from entering Australia after being deported as a 501.

In August 2021 during a remote sitting of parliament, one of the staffers decided to confront Senator Thorpe about the relationship.

Confidential law enforcement committee briefing documents had arrived at the Senator's Melbourne office, detailing how the AFP monitors outlaw motorcycle gangs.

This staffer said Senator Thorpe had come into the office after Question Time that day and told the staffer she had just been with Mr Martin in the park across the road.

The staffer perceived a risk in Senator Thorpe receiving confidential information while being in an undisclosed relationship with Mr Martin, with whom she had been with just hours earlier.
