A better day for the opposition in the campaign today. Both 6 pm news channels featured the MSD story, Upston was hiding and (as usual) Luxon on TV is the opposition's best asset. He can't help being tetchy and snarky. Terrible optics. And Hipkins was sharper, more direct, using the word "lie", as he should.

Keep it up every day, be relentless: "Luxon lies, Luxon lies …".

Will MSM chase Upston like they would a labour minister. She had the total backing of Luxon today.

If this was labour they'd be burnt toast.

I am in agreement with Paul Henry.

He is right, broadening the tax base requires more than a single new tax.

But first we need to restore the estate tax (1993), gift duty (2011), land tax (1990)(property worth over $1M) stamp duty (1999)(property worth over $2M).

This would end the deficit and thus solve the problem that he describes.

Then a CGT (on investment property), a 33% Tax on companies (banks) with a $B in profit and a mortgage surcharge tool for the RBG would provide extra funds for the health system (and care service).

Other moves, add sickness to ACC.

A small wealth tax would secure UI for non working partners and part-time workers (to secure two incomes and diminish the W and I nightmare for some).

A just society that pays its way is plausible, but this is not what ACT stands for (it supported the removal of the taxes mentioned above).

      Just vote Green SPC.

If the Greens got 18% and Labour 29% in a new government of the Left, the Greens would be entirely justified in making one of their major tax changes a bottom line.
