And Talley’s lose yet another employment case. This time, they sacked a union member they claimed, without evidence, had defaced a locker. The judgement is scathing of the manager concerned and of a handwriting ‘expert’ who reckoned he could match the worker’s writing with the graffiti on the locker.

What is unusual about this decision is that the company have been ordered to re-instate the worker (as well as paying lost wages and compensation). Reinstatement doesn’t happen very often these days, but given just how shonky the investigation, disciplinary hearing and decision to dismiss were, I guess the ERA has decided to send Talley’s a not so subtle message.

No sweat. But we shouldn’t forget that the National government have watered down employment law to give a nod and a wink to Talleys. This stuff doesn’t happen in a vacuum. And, hey, Maori Party, don’t think your (ex?) voters, many of whom work in or rely on the meat industry, aren’t aware of your part in allowing this to happen.

“I told McClay about lawyer” Key,

McClay claims he did not know it was Keys lawyer…

    1. 2.1

The reluctant scrutiny of the media has pressured John Key to throw not only his own lawyer under the bus, but one of his senior cabinet ministers too!

Is there nothing he won’t do to protect his image?

So… real back of the envelope calculation, but a gross margin of 0.06%…

I hope I’ve stuffed that calc up because that’s really taking the piss.

No rational being invests in a business for that sort of return, they’d do better with a savings account. If you or I put in a tax return like that year after year we’d have Inland revenue hanging around like flies.

10th May @ 6am NZ Time, the names and details of those individuals who appear in the Panama Papers will be released. I heard or read somewhere there are quite a few NZers among them. Anyone heard any rumours as to who they might be?

    1. 4.2

So you are so tapped in you hear about details before they are released – you just cannot remember where?

Yeah right. I’m guessing that there will be very few or none as opposed to your supposed “quite a few”. Perhaps you were talking to rufus painter?

      1. 4.2.1

Actually Stupid I have recalled the person who made the statement. It was the NZer living in New York who oversaw the release of the documents to international journos and media outlets in the first place. One suspects he knows a teensy weensy bit more than we do. And “quite a few” in the context of this specific case is a reference to a dozen or two maybe – no more.

Great pity you’re not more “tapped in”. We might take your puerile diatribes a little more seriously.

Interesting labour do nothing about the quota their entire time in government and national actually up it.

      1. 5.1.1

Intersting there weren’t a million fleeing Syrian refugees during Labours term don’t you think? And countries round the world werent openly discussing taking in the influx. Whoopsee

I laughed to see that Louise Upston thought a pair of spectacles might furnish her with a bit more credibility as she faced the Gallery on the way into The House today.

think its a fairly good bet there will be a new member for ChCh Central after the next election….one way or another.

You’ll have to bear with me Pat….I’m in shock….truly.

I knew things were bad…but not THAT bad.

        Words fail me…

          1. 9.1.1.2.1

            Beam me up Scotty…..

nah, I’m not dignifying this with a conversation about why it is so awful, embarrassing and inappropriate.

Maybe if we ignore it (like I was told to do with a certain RW blogger the other day ;-( ) it’ll just go away?

            1. 9.1.1.2.1.1

who watches TV now anyway…..if you want comparative sanity I recommend reading Lewis Carroll or Douglas Adams.
