always nice when people surprise you,

“Just start to chase your dreams
Up out your seats, make your body sway
Socialize, get down, let your soul lead the way
Shake it now, go ladies, it’s a livin’ dream
      Love Life Live
Come play the game, our world is free
Do what you want but scream”

      may their words take root
may the bass be your muse

“still gonna be roof ripping incredible”

It’s Bambaataa. It couldn’t be any less than liquid, yet viscous, awesome.

If going by this morning it was dry mouth, throbbing headache, hour and a half sleep fun.

So yeah, great fun by all accounts.

    *burp*

Finally got around to googling up the how of wholemeal bread making. The result, huge success!

(Here: http://www.thefreshloaf.com/lessons for teh important stuff)

And turns out a filling of fried in olive oil red peppers, onion, chillies, garlic (+ a little brown sugar, red peppers low on sugar for some reason), mixed with plenty of cheese (colby) and frozen corn leadth to deliciousness as a thrown together wholemeal calzone filling. Made three, scoffed one, will try and resist scoffing the other two until the sunday leg-buster on the Port Hills.

It wasn’t killed 😉 Not as boozy as I generally aim for, centre’s cooked and the crumb and crust be bloody good, but a little more salt and doing the first rise in the laundry (@10-13 C) should do the trick.

It just didn’t triple in size like I was hoping due to tightly rolling the dough up, which also stopped the loaf from springing in the oven. Next time I’ll roll it as a much thicker layer of dough and leave some gas in it and I should have a super loaf.

Stop making me feel so useless! I don’t have a clue how to make bread. Cooking has never been my strong point as those who have partaken of my efforts would (I am sure) privately attest to…

If Ennui is around… how are the girls making out in the sudden drop in temps? My budgies seem rather unfazed. It’s ‘Mum’ who gets hot and bothered… risks life and limb climbing a ladder and covering roof with tarpaulins to help keep them dry and warm. And the aviary is under a car-port so they don’t get wet anyway.

Have just acquired a beautiful young male – male bird that is. (Hell, I’m getting myself in trouble here) He’s deep blue almost violet in colour. A nice contrast to the yellows, greens and some mixed hybrids of blue/yellow and green. Very pleased.

Bread’s easy _if_ go google hunting for the right stuff: http://www.thefreshloaf.com/lessons

And don’t feel bad, it took me 7 years of mucking around before I finally got the stuff I was after bread wise 😀 The rest is just confidence, persistence and watching the damn thing during cooking so things don’t burn.

Also, one thing to try out is what we do in lab research, i.e. keep a record of everything you’re doing so if/when something goes wrong you can work out why things went crapola.

Derp – the head was willing but the body had other ideas, no hill walking for me today due to sleep debt wacking me back…

Weekend jog is now up to 45 minutes, with 30 mins every other day during the week. I’m not sure how quickly I should increase the length of time given the years it’s been since I could jog freely. But so far it’s all good and this weekend a jog will be in Florence 🙂

After 5 months of failures, I finally have a fruit on one of my rocoto chilli’s.

    Only it’s now May.

    In Christchurch.

I have grown some sad capsicums here in Blenheim but it took about 7 months. Fun but not really worth it.

“Chip on the shoulder.” Just reading about the carpenters working in 18 Century English Naval Yards had been allowed to take home the offcuts as a sort of addition to income. The Navy realised that the men were cutting up lengths of wood into offcuts so they banned the practice. The men retaliated by loading the chips on their shoulders and shouting abuse and insults to the Navy bosses. The men lost of course and in due course were beaten into obedience.
Next time I have a chip on my shoulder I will salute those distant workers.
