Site down this afternoon

Hah hah just kidding! There may be speed wobbles under an expected heavy traffic load, but there is no “scheduled maintenance”.

Make your predictions here, if you feel so inclined. The Herald has its bases well covered…

    1996 II, return of 1996.

Probably. It’s been a better process this time round. That shows that Peters has learned something in 21 years. So maybe he won’t repeat past mistakes.

I think the only person who knows what WP will say is WP – otherwise there would have been whispers / leaks.

Winston did send his ‘preference’ of where he wants to go on his poster during the election.

Across the poster was “had enough” so that was a clear message that he will adhere to.

As he cannot surive nor can NZ First if he keeps going with the status quo or the rotting carcass of the National Party, which is now a liabilty to any coalition that hiches to them.

    1. 3.1

NZ First survival will be one of his key considerations.

That is why the Northland electorate is key in all this. If he goes with National I am almost certain that will be one of the confidential concessions.

  3. 4

    What will English say?
If National is chosen, “What a great consultation it has been with a wonderful NZF Team lead by an honest and dedicated Leader who has done what is best for New Zealand!”

If Labour is chosen, “What a disastrous calamity for NZ with a bunch of duplicitous nasty miserable 7 percenters who have thrown all the Mums and Dads into a deep hole from which it will take years and years to recover, if ever!”

  4. 5

He’s meeting with National literally before just before the announcement, look at Bills body language and look how Jacinda dodges the camera’s.

Hes going National. Jacinda should have walked away on Monday leaving nzf with no options and no power and she would have been considered a leader with integrity who wouldn’t sell out her principles to get in power at all costs…. too late for that, the ammount of times shes changed labours policy since she took over or flip flopped is ridiculous.

She’ll be a good opposition leader but she would have been so much more had she walked away saying that she won’t continue taking part in a pissing match.

You’re taking this all very personally old fella, you’ll end of giving yourself a stroke.

Whatever way Peters goes it’s not going to be the end of the world.

        1. 5.1.2.1

Maybe you werent here when we were the second bast country in which to live and now we have slipped to 32nd.

          Wake up kiwis.

          1. 5.1.2.1.1

I wouldn’t cry if Winston suprises me, I’d be pleasantly surprised. Except I have accepted we lost the election and that winstons at heart a conservative and that he’ll more than likely side with the conservatives. So I won’t cry either way. Last time I cried over an election was after Bernie lost the primaries and then as expected Trump won the election, ever since then I always expect the worst. Labour will be a powerful opposition it just needs to sort its tax policy and actually develop a a strategy so it can be misconstrued and lied about, also jacinda needs to be able to fight back when people lie about labour which she hasn’t been able to do. Id love to be proven wrong today but won’t allow myself the luxury of hope

    Hah! Funny -sort of 🙁

I hope not. But if it jumps from 50 people online to over at least 300 in less than 5 minutes like it did when the special arrived, then that is a definite possibility.

We operate the site for $134 per month in direct operating costs paid for with voluntary donations. This is a decision that comes with some definite constraints about how much peak loading the system can tolerate.

But I have set up my apartment for coolness today.

Anyone know what the actual time of this announcement is? I can head home early.

    1. 6.1

He hasn’t announced an actual time. RNZ this morning thought there might even be final little bits of negotiation to be completed. Plus, of course, the other parties need to be able to call their councils/boards or whatever together to approve the deal.

  6. 7

I think that more than this site will need maintenance after this afternoon.

There will be work on Infrastructure (including 10 bridges in Northland), the education and health systems, water and railways, state housing.

There will be more work for new home builders.

Work for furniture movers in the Beehive and Parliamentary offices, and official residences.

Work for the police and justice system.

    Work for bankers and lawyers.

Work for the IRD and Customs.

    Work for airline staff.

All at least at the living wage. All with full tax paid. All in proper safety and working conditions.

  7. 8

Might be prudent to mention that we don’t know what is being announced this afternoon. Might be NZF’s decision, might be Labour or National announcing intention of formation of govt.

                1. 8.1.1.1.1.1.1.1

After reading the newsroom link I think the important passage is this

“From Carrad’s Twitter account, it might be thought that he would be more disposed to linking with Labour than National as there is a disproportionate number of anti-government tweets or retweets.”

So Chris is suggesting that with Carrad being prominent means that Peters will go with Labour… just more tea leaf reading really…

  8. 9

Winston will publicly flip a coin before making his announcement. Gower will subsequently discover a two-headed coin on the floor of the briefing room. Garner will be passed a two tailed coin by an anonymous NZF insider. Hosking will make the “Democracy isn’t working” speech from Judge Dredd. Badly.

  9. 10

If the result needs the signature of the Governor General prior to a public announcement…I think an astute journalist chasing a scoop would be watching the secure parking entrance at the GG’s office.

If I could double it, I’d risk 2 bob on ‘No announcement today’. Winston is relishing his last front of stage cameo. Rock star games, the stage lights dim, the crowd muffled for a second or 2 and the Stones haven’t even left the hotel yet.

      1. 10.1.1

It won’t. It will enable either English or Ardern to be able to go to the G-G and say that they have the numbers to form a government. There will be a no confidence motion from the opposition in Parliament as the first vote when they sit for the first time (this is routine – happens after every election). Assuming the government passes that, then it’s all sorted.

    ““Site down this afternoon”

    LOL – OK well played.

Regardless of the result – will be interesting to come back this afternoon and reading the comments.

But cannot disagree with Enough is enough – Whatever way he goes we still live in a fantastic country – and I think too many of us lose sight of that all the time.

    1. 12.1

Yep, I love my life in NZ.

I’d like to see less of us struggling to register our cars, it’s soul hammering for them and lousy for business.

      1. 12.1.1

        Struggling to register our cars?

If you can’t afford the registration you can’t afford a car.

On the topic of car costs, I’d like to see compulsory third party insurance.
No insurance your car gets impounded until you get some.

        1. 12.1.1.1

I’m referring to that sizeable group that are fully engaged in our society and going nowhere, treading water.

I don’t believe our parks are littered with freezing families. But I do believe that there is a large group of us that after meeting the ‘got to haves’: Rent, power food, transport etc there is next to nothing left over. Folk that are giving life a jolly good go with no sense of getting ahead. Saving for a house deposit, a joke….it nibbles at your soul. Eventually, our get up and go, gets up and goes.

      1. 12.2.1

Not sure where you are going with the Homosexual inference there.

You know that some people would find it offensive that you try using homosexuality as an insult.

        Homophobia is not ok.

  11. 13

BM is a joke he said “If you can’t afford the registration you can’t afford a car.”

he doesnt live here does he as he would know many ‘poor’ in NZ are living in cars. How dispicable he really is. He is a perfect national party man without a sole.

    1. 13.1

I have boyfriends james and I am not a homosexual so why do think to have a boyfriend means you are a homosexual?????

      Are you homophobic?

I was talking about Key/English leaving parliament just to make you clear as you are a national troll.

  12. 14

Why haven’t the Greens come out and say they have finished and their agreement has been ratified?

Are all other parties just waiting for this event now?

We may well have it finalised around Labour day then?

How fitting if we have a labour lead coalition finished on that particular day “Labour day”.

  13. 15

Surely this midday meal break decision thing is around the greens consulting/swallowing rats etc?
The longer it goes the more the chance we are going left….?

    1. 17.1

Looking a lot slower than when the special went online.

I like that Winston is deferring to the Prime Minister on areas that are her responsibility. Entirely correct.
