21st Century Leadership Election

As part of the Labour Leadership Election there is to be a ‘virtual hustings’ – an online forum for Q&A organised by Labour.  Scoop have agreed to facilitate, and are now harvesting the questions.  Only those who are eligible to vote in the leadership election (Labour members/union delegates) will have their questions answered, and questions must be in by September 10.

As announced on Red Alert, from 10-13 September selected questions will be answered in a series of blog posts on Red Alert. Given that not everyone will be able to get to the 12 hustings meetings around the country, this is a good way of letting others be involved.

A reminder to candidates – if you want to get a message out to the many voting Standardistas, we’d love to have a Guest Post from each of you, like at the last leadership election. We’d also love you to get involved in the ensuing discussion!

The Tories are clearly worried and Key is looking less ‘aspirational’ as the leadership road show rolls on. The Tory chooks have obviously had the word from their bestie and rediscovered their poison pens, beating up the costs as best they can, picking away at any hint of difference, but the rest seem to be playing it fair. Of course, the Tories will be “harvesting” the answers from the Q&A and sending them for analysis, by taxpayer funded officials and their cronies in the markets, for party political use. So be careful boys.

I missed this yesterday, looks interesting.

I think Scoop needs to make privacy explicit on that sign up page, esp given the history with the Labour Party, Red Alert and their members’ privacy rights. Obviously Labour need to be able to confirm that the person asking the question is a paid up Labour member or a member of one of the affilates, but what is going to be done with that ID information?
