Spot the difference: Nats on capital punishment

Corin Dann on John Key’s visit to Saudi Arabia, where people are still executed for sorcery:

Yes, John Key did raise [the issue of human rights] but it’s clear he didn’t push very hard.

The National Party Twitter account on the Bali 9:

Yep, we sure do condemn the death penalty. Unless we’re trying to sell you milk.

It seems to be an Australian media beatup about 2 of its citizens who were executed.

All the rest were only mentioned today, being non Australians werent important.

Cultural cringe means running their stories as if they were ours.

Interesting to hear Abbott bemoaning the execution as cruel… on the day his government is trying to force aborigines off their land to free up mining without needing consent.

    Principles ? Key? that’s a joke!
You would be better to do a post when has principles . It would save you a lot of time.
Welcome to New Zealand where casual is the key word.

      Casual is the key word?
I thought it was “For Sale”!

I know that is two words, but then the Nats can’t seam to do simple maths anyway!

Very depressing. I am glad that Helen Clark condemned the executions. At least we have one respectable ambassador for New Zealand. John Key is now utterly compromised, and a national embarrassment on the world stage.

Amazing how the National (party) message differs in intensity, to a different audience. McCully’s statement was reported in the Telegraph
New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully said he was “dismayed” Indonesia had executed the men.
“New Zealand is strongly opposed to the death penalty in all cases, and under all circumstances,” Mr McCully said.
“We have expressed our opposition to the death penalty to Indonesia and I made this clear when I met with the Indonesian Foreign Minister recently.”

This differs from what I have seen on other threads with regards to Key’s white-washing what happens in Saudi Arabia.
    Shame

WHat does Murray McCully ever say about the Americans and the number of citizens they slaughter, with or without trial?
