Voting closes 3pm NZT in the election of the next New York City Mayor, and results should be in by 6pm NZT. Democrat Zohran Mamdani is expected to win, with New York falling to socialism.

    In the final hours of the most closely watched race for New York City mayor in recent years, voters were streaming to the polls in large numbers. By early evening and with polls open until 9 p.m., more people had already voted in this year’s race than cast ballots in any mayoral election in more than three decades.

    Mamdani 50.6

    Cuomo 41.2

    Incredible. He has beaten both Cuomo and the tactical Republican voters who voted for Cuomo.

    NY Times just called it for Mamdani. Over two million voted, the first time more than two million have voted in a NY mayoral race since 1969. If Mandami can get over 50% it's a slam dunk.

    Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani has defeated Andrew Cuomo to win New York City's mayoral race, US media is reporting.

    The 34-year-old democratic socialist had been facing off against 67-year-old Cuomo, the former governor who was running as an independent after losing to Mamdani in the primary.

    The campaign has laid bare the Democratic Party's generational and ideological divides as it seeks to rehabilitate its damaged brand.

    Turnout was high in New York – more than 2 million ballots including early voting had been cast just beofre polls closed, according to the board of elections, far exceeding the 1.1 million cast in the last mayoral race in 2021. It was the biggest turnout in a mayoral election since 1969.

    President Donald Trump says said the United States has lost "sovereignty" after New Yorkers elected leftist Zohran Mamdani as their next mayor.

    "We'll take care of it," Trump said without explaining what he meant, while claiming the country's largest city would become communist.

    In a speech in Miami a day after Mamdani's convincing victory, Trump added that the Florida city "will soon be the refuge for those fleeing communism in New York."

    Meanwhile Mamdani and Sanders, IMO the Dream Team !

    "If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him," Mamdani said in a victory speech late Tuesday.
