   What they mean by “Technology for Prosperity” is the commercialisation of research for private industry. Our research system is being turned into corporate welfare.

   What Luxon is actually signalling is the death of New Zealand science.

   The consequences are clear. Early-career researchers are leaving science in droves. Highly successful New Zealand scientists are giving up and retiring or going elsewhere. There will be, given the lack of investment in health, environment and primary production research, more job losses from our new Public Research Organisations… The Prime Minister’s statement is inaccurate, ignorant and incoherent. I would hope he and his ministers might have more care about a science system that has served New Zealand well. But clearly, all he cares about is $10 billion companies.

   That is what makes so many of Luxon’s comments in this debate troubling. Successful start-ups and commercial breakthroughs do not emerge because governments or executives confidently pick winners from above. They emerge from ecosystems: deep capability, independent inquiry, patient funding, infrastructure, talent development, and enough intellectual freedom for unexpected things to become useful later.

   The point is that no one can know in advance which strands of knowledge will become foundational.
   …
   That is what worries me about the framing of “brutally commercialising” science… If we force the whole system to justify itself through short-term private returns, we will damage the very conditions that make later commercialisation possible. The companies, patents and products sit on top of a much deeper substrate of public-good science. Strip that away, and in time there is much less left to commercialise.

   I read this RNZ Link, not with disbelief, (cynicism from years of these asshats) but a wonder that anyone…apart from of course, the top feeders, would give sorted Luxo and his fellow creeps/cronies another go?

   Revelations? (No, not the Evangelical kind : (

   His weekly post-cabinet media conference followed revelations Ministry of Social Development staff have performance targets to reduce emergency housing numbers.

   And pushup/pushout Potaka has had words ? I wonder what they were? IMO : cant you keep a lid on this shit?

   Associate Housing Minister Tama Potaka has spoken with the Ministry of Social Development's boss following the revelations.

   Auckland City Missioner Helen Robinson told Morning Report that was "incredibly distressing".

     What do you expect Psych, they are bottom feeders.

     On RNZ 5 minutes ago the political correspondent said that when Luxon was asked about the "move-on" legislation he said that the lack of housing/shelter was nothing to do with the fact that people were sleeping on the streets. He said people needed to "compartmentalise" the isuues.

     WTF.
