Yup, gross negligence and dereliction of duty by poor managers who are not fit to govern. Poor process tends to produce poor products and unfortunately, but oh so predictably, this is one of the bad consequences of rushed law making. The almost implausible deniability by Louise Upston is beyond belief.
Why was it Labour in 1987 that implemented an absolute blitzkreig on the taxation and state regimes that NZ had built up since the Savage regime, nearly overnight, but nowadays, has barely enough spine to thoroughly reject neoliberalism in the same vein that 1987 Labour rejected state sponsored universalism?
If 2026 Labour had even half the gumption of 1987 Labour they would thoroughly repudiate the 1987 experiments, and come out with a big bold progressive revenue tax on multinational corporations (eg 5% on the first $5 million of REVENUE, rising to say, 20% over $750 million of revenue) to dissuade tax avoidance profit minimisation measures. Revenue of multinationals should be progressively taxed in the same way that PAYE income(revenue) for individuals is progressively taxed.
That progressive revenue tax on multinationals will then afford the first $25,000 of personal income earned via PAYE methods, be tax free.
Bold policy ideas on ripping up the Neoliberal playbook is required. Not milquetoast incrementalism.
