Willis has hit a new low.

To mock people already struggling is cruel, and any apology is too little too late.

This Government will be moving poor families after a period, causing more hardship as they navigate new schools routes to work and horrible attitudes like these.

They National, did this last time. Did it work? No, it did not. They are bereft of feelings and answers. Vote them out.

To say state housing tenants have won the lotto more like she's won the lotto with her Enhlish Lit degree and now the finance minister. Working in Blinghes office and ending in parliament she's actually lodi g it the sooner or we see the back of her and her party the better. In the meantime ipstone is putting the boot into the disable and their whanau.

Budget 2026: Nicola Willis issues statement expressing ‘regret’ about social housing comment [The Herald, 21 May 2026]

Finance Minister Nicola Willis has expressed “regret” about saying people in social housing “have won the Lotto”, issuing a statement this evening saying she “reached for the wrong metaphor”.

Nicky-No-Boats meant her comment alright – the CoC Minister of Finance’s expression of 'regret' is about regretting that she let the mask slip. NActF ('bottom feeding', 'marmite sandwich', 'drop kicks', move-on) really is 'govt' by and for the sorted – a(t)las, they do not care about anything other than lining their pockets and the pockets of their sorted supporters, and are happily looting and wrecking NZ in pursuit of that goal.

And gosh, wasn’t The Herald very quick to promulgate Willis’ expression of regret.

Gosh, 800 comments under Stuff's report of Willis' 'regret' – must be all the rage wink

The ‘fair’ Lady Willis should have stuck to movies & ice cream. Comments are closed.

Finance minister ‘regrets’ saying New Zealanders living in social housing have ‘won the Lotto [Stuff, 21 May 2026]

        • Incognito 2.2.1.1

What she meant is that it is people’s personal responsibility to buy a Lotto ticket and get lucky enough to win a spot in social housing. Of course, social housing is as much an oxymoron as ‘society’, as neither should exist in hardcore RW dogma – the State shouldn’t be a landlord and those houses are paid for by individual taxpayers. Privatise the whole lot, shrink the State, and protect your personal hard-earned (and deserved!) wealth.

          One of those 800 comments:

The lengths they will go to in order to take from the poorest and most vulnerable to give to the wealthy and sorted is incredible. They're not even trying to hide it. They have no shame. Their greed is boundless.

Ensure you are enrolled to vote. Vote for change.

Louise Upston wouldn’t answer questions about whether she would meet the eligibility threshold she is seeking to enforce for New Zealanders claiming accommodation supplements from the Government.

MPs who live outside of Wellington are entitled to an accommodation allowance to pay for housing in the capital.

Ministerial expense claims show the social development minister claims $1000 per week, while the pecuniary interests register shows she jointly owns an apartment in Wellington. It does not show any mortgage debts owed.

The amount Upston claimed last year was $52,000, on top of her $320,600 ministerial salary.

Some here may remember but I had a little cry about my daughter leaving home, well she's doing really well, funny as she couldn't get a job* so decided to go to university which she's well suited for (she finds that kind of thing doable, she's very goal orientated & needs to complete things). On her first day she made friends & now is too busy to talk to old dad! But I'm happy for her, she seems really happy. Good for her. Anyway, I'm saving to go on a trip to Europe with the GF at the end of the year (my first). I miss the kid like crazy of course, miss the little person wandering around the house & taking her on adventures (the circus is in town & brought memories). I still have her cat who has become really friendly with me (the cat used to not come near me, was all about the kid). So yeah, thanks for the positivity.

*she got told to come in for a job after being interviewed by an AI thing, this was for Burger King, & when she arrived no one in the branch had any idea about her turning up. She had sent out CVs everywhere, applied online & the one interview she had was with AI & it was wrong. The poor bloody kids in this country.

IFL good to hear you had some good daughter contact.things having worked out..to Uni…and cat has decided to make the best of it ! (I suppose you open the cat food : )

And yea the kids…some are not alright : ( but glad yours is ok.

We need them to vote. For a New, New Zealand that values them.

      Take care.
