    Back-scratching: Do what’s best for your mates and screw the rest

    tl;dr I have a new experiment demonstrating the sheer power of back-scratching, even when it imposes huge costs on others.

    These days it seems that just about every political decision is about doing favours for the connected few at the expense of the many. It is part of an implicit quid pro quo; trading of favours now for favours in the future.

    And back-scratching does seem to be what National does best.

    Guess who made the below quote:

    Ok, it wasn’t Andrew Little.

    It was Walter Nash some 50 years ago. Don’t really know anything about the man or his leadership, but it’s a powerful quote for starters. It’s interesting though that nowadays a quote like that wouldn’t be acceptable from one of our main party leaders.

    Where would David Seymour be ranked on Nationals list? Somewhere between Key & English? Slightly above Nick Smith? Definitely below Hekia.

    Led by Ben Uffindell, the party promised independence from Hamilton, re-legalisation of illegal highs, a llama for every child in poverty and the banning of satire.

    Describing itself as “up of centre”, it named a pineapple as its deputy leader.

    It did attract more support at the last election than the NZ Independent Coalition, led by former MP Brendan Horan.

    Uffindell has continued to blog, most recently with a post “quoting” Prince Harry saying it was “quite inhumane” how many Kiwis lived in cramped pens on the side of the road.

      That’s a really badly written article sorry. Is this rape insurance or abortion insurance? They’ve conflated the two.
