Today marks 10 years since John Key’s National party first won power. I remember that night, with Roger Douglas smiling as he said that ‘tough choices’ will have to be made, and Matthew Hooton talking about how Treasury and the RBNZ will ring Key with ‘dire figures’.

a week later I got cufflinks for an anniversary made from the keys of an old Olympus typwriter; one said

      Shift

      The other said

      Key

Quote: community storage pilot project using Tesla batteries went live this week in Western Australia, three months ahead of schedule. The 105KW/420KWh pooled storage will act as a sort of locker for excess power produced by homes with solar panels.

The project is an unusual one because it pools battery capacity for homes with solar panels. It was funded by energy company Synergy and government-owned Western Power, which sought 52 customers with solar panels on their homes as participants. The 52 shares of the project were snapped up in two weeks, far more quickly than expected, which accelerated the project’s timeline.” quote end.

Yeah, didn’t realize that infused was around that long. We all thought that Key would be out on his ear in 3 years and the world would be put to right. How wrong were we….

Does Hopkins review what he comments on …. If so he should shudder.
“We can consider reconfiguring the offer, and that’s always been on the table, but there won’t be any further money from the Government.”
Reconfigure “to rearrange the elements or settings of (a system, device, computer application, etc)” – So Hopkins now wants to “re package the same deal ” Sometimes I wonder how a politicians brain works … not the same as those who vote !!!!
And he is disappointed how about how the teachers feel .

It could mean for instance increasing the starting salary by lowering the top salaries. Reconfiguring seems a good idea and was used for Nursing offers. So what is the problem?

      1. 5.1.1

And a good idea for whom ?
So take from 1 to give to another mmm and you are only guessing what the repackaged offer could be, nothing has been said just the minister thinking out aloud.
The teachers have only this 1 chance otherwise they will have to wait for 3 more years until the next opportunity for any change in conditions.
3% p.a. for 3 years + part of the offer of a step change is to take effect in 2020.
And as we are told that there is no more money, Some financial education for the minister. For every $3 they “give” to the teachers the govt receives $1 back in tax so it has a net cost of $2.
I get the same feeling as The Chairman, this govt like the last will attempt to wear the union down. 🙁 And I felt for the nurses in being under rewarded

    2. 5.2

They largely did the same (i.e. repackaging) to the nurses until they wore down the resolve of the majority.

“Minister defends trade in kauri swamp logs”

The Minister for Primary Industries is defending the export of kauri logs as carvings, saying it is a good way to promote the country.

“They are finished products, I have seen some fantastic-looking kauri swamp logs being carved and they’re going to be an amazing feature for our country and an international country that they’re destined for. So we manage it very, very closely.”
