Does this contravene human rights in this country ?

Would the same agency be so bald faced invasive if their prospective client was a well known millionaire wishing to temporarily rent a luxury apartment?

Is it right these creepy little misery merchants should be allowed to legally peruse the personal finances and details of individuals , – when not just so long ago a prominent politician had a similar issue regarding welfare payment details being released to every Tom Dick and Harry ?

And that could also be open to abuse in some cases, – and false accusations due to the passing on of information – as was the case with Nicky Hagar, different situation but having similar potentials.

This whole business has gone too far and that the law is protecting many unscrupulous operators whose product is often not even worth the amount they are asking for.

We need a Ralph Nader in this country.

      Fast.

Always strikes me as peculiar that such a pleasantly spoken man as our Donald can produce such an unpleasant message…

I’ve always kind of liked him for that eloquence … but Geez Wayne… the guys a right rogue !

You know, I had high hopes for Marama Davidson.

But I have sadly come to the conclusion she is flakier than a Donskoy cat with a bad case of psoriasis.

    1. 3.1

I met Marama at the weekend. I felt she has the strength of Metiria. She presented her vision for The Greens very eloquently.

It was just a shame that the Israelis sent Marama Davidson straight home,
instead should have dropped her off in the middle of Iran [Que? – MS]

      1. 3.2.1

Hands up all those who haven’t said a naughty word in their lifetimes… in or out of public office …

So let the person who has not said a naughty word in their life first appear in Iran in a mini skirt ( male or female ) .

        1. 3.2.1.1

Sure, but you don’t speak to a crowd with kids and families and church people assembled who came together against hate by basing your speech on the word cunt.

That is just very very stupid. And sad.

          1. 3.2.1.1.1

Unwise would be the better choice of word.

Still ,does one throw out the baby with the bath water… perhaps it is the shock value that gets us,… however, Marama has shown a gutsy side of her when she protested in the middle east. I don’t agree with the swearing of course, but I also see a very headstrong type who is not afraid to take a stand.

Hone Hawera and even Ron Mark and quite a bunch of others have said a few naughty words in their time… why do we hold Marama up for special scrutiny ?

            1. 3.2.1.1.1.1

We don’t hold Marama Davidson up for special scrutiny, just basic decency. Someone needs to have a word with her and if she doesn’t like it then she can go do something else.

      2. 3.2.2

What’s that word? Is it allowed? And the c-word. Not nice. So why make it a pedagogue session – did someone used it recently.? Greens are too principled methinks. There is another word starting with p – practical and of course priority. A political dictionary for the Greens.

      1. 4.2.1

As I said elsewhere , other political leaders have said a few choice expletives in and out of parliament, … why is Marama any different ?

don’t you think the ‘bomber’ title is a bit OTT especially in today’s world?

Imagine if he was in a marathon and you were yelling GO BOMBER – might be an issue.

I wonder what her co-leader is thinking about this re-claiming of the “C” word?
      Chloe doesn’t seem too impressed.

He’ll be talking about Simon’s Pledge: regardless of Judith’s tweet I will lead to another defeat. If not, I’ll step down as Leader of the National Party.

  2. 6

Is Marama Davidson just green and new to the job or is she deliberately out of touch?

Why would you bring a swear word to a peace rally with families and children attending, and base your entire speech on it?

Seriously out of touch in her new role I’d say. She needs to up her game very quickly because this crap is self indulgent and damaging to not only the greens but to the government.

And in turn Davis claims she and her children received death threats , – presumably from the alt right supporters of Southern and entourage…

And this is precisely the sort of social unrest and potentially dangerous elements unleashed when we entertain these sorts of toxic speakers, – and while they go home and drink their champagne and laugh about what a hoot it all was, – we have to clean up the mess and repair the damage.

Can we talk about the most important news?

As Bomber puts it, “Being Carbon Neutral by 2050 isn’t a solution to anything, it’s the pretence of a solution.”

Gwynne Dyer’s article makes for sober reading.

“This is Armageddon Summer in the northern hemisphere: out-of-control wildfires all around the Arctic Circle (not to mention California and Greece), weeks-long heatwaves with unprecedented high temperatures, torrential downpours and Biblical floods. And yes, it’s climate change.

It’s quite appropriate to be frightened, because the summers will be much worse 10 years from now, and much worse again 10 years after that. Prompt and drastic cuts in greenhouse gas emissions now might stop the summers of the 2040s from being even worse, but they wouldn’t do much to lessen the mounting misery of the next 20 years……..

….Food is the key issue: as warming turns whole regions into desert, mass starvation is imaginable, although actual extinction seems improbable. It’s also still possible that we will react fast enough to stop well short of mass death.

The situation is quite grim. Bad news, of course, but when you find yourself in a high-stakes game you should know what the stakes are.”

yes this must be done now.

“The kaiwhakahaere of the New Zealand Nurses Union says work is now needed to improve pay and conditions for nurses employed by Māori and iwi providers.

Nurses and midwives employed by district health boards have voted to accept a new collective contract, after going on strike for a day last month.

As well as pay rises of up to 16 percent for some nurses, the deal includes 500 extra positions in an attempt at improving safe staffing.

Kerri Nuku says nurses employed by Māori and iwi providers, those in primary health care, aged care and private hospitals also deserve to be highly valued for their contributions to health care.

Work needs to start now bringing them up to that level.”

An interesting back of the envelope calculation

World population pre industrial revolution approx 1 billion

Global habitable land area 6.3 billion hectares or 6.3 hectares per person

NZ land area 26 million hectares

6.3 hectares per person equates to a population of 4.1 million
