Stand up for kids is “a campaign for parents, families, teachers and other educators who all want the best for our children”. They are holding street marches in centers all round NZ today:
Join our street marches around New Zealand – Saturday 13 April
Educators all over the country will be taking to the streets on 13 April to stand up for kids and protect our schools – and we’d like your support. The Government’s GERM agenda – privatising public education, setting up competition and creating winner and loser schools – would be disastrous for our children and our communities.
Whether it comes in the form of the hasty mergers and closure of schools in Christchurch, the introduction of charter schools that don’t have to employ qualified teachers, or the implementation of flawed and dodgy National Standards, the GERM threatens our quality public education systems. Educators, parents and all those interested in defending our good local schools will be out on 13 April. Please join us.
- WHAT: Stand Up For Kids – Protect Our Schools marches and rallies
- WHEN: Saturday 13 April
- WHY: You can download a flier that explains why we are marching. It is also well worth reading an opinion piece by Professor Peter O’Connor that was published in the Herald.
We had a well supported march in Invercargill today in support of our schools and children. The sun shone, the bagpiper played, cars tooted, people shouted support from the footpaths and we had some spirited chanting. http://localbodies-bsprout.blogspot.co.nz/2013/04/marching-in-invercargill-to-support-our.html
Approx 500 people in Hamilton today.
…and the rest of the blog got what it deserved…
Don’t worry yourself there’s widespread support for schools and the children. The coverage on the news was great, many turned out and thank goodness we have concerned people willing and able to voice their opposition to the idiotic education policies this destructive Govt. are implementing.
