   Terrible speech. Reads like a 6th-form school debate script. Leaden uninspiring prose interspersed with shitty metaphor that only serves to demonstrate that whoever wrote the speech is an awful writer. Labour needs better than this.

   Just watched it. Unbelievable. I don’t know where that came from. Never seen him talk like that, ever. Must be first speech not read directly from notes? Made me think if Cunliffe was smart he would’ve gone up to Shearer at the end of the speech, shaken his hand and said “I won’t be challenging your leadership. Let’s get on with the job, together.”

      At which point Mallard would have spear-tackled him to the ground and declared to Patrick Gower, “Did you see that? He had a gun!!!” and the headlines would’ve been HEROIC HUTT SOUTH MP SAVES SHEARER FROM DASTARDLY WESTIE.
