Hand of control?

John Key’s artwork is being auctioned.  According to the NZ Herald, Key’s artwork is an outline of his hand, and Key has signed it, giving it the title of:

The hand of Government

This indicates that John Key considers himself to be THE government, all on his own. It puzzled me that he would label himself thus, so I sought some definitions, and generally “government” is defined as a “body” of people, or the system of governance. This is the definition from Oxford Dictionaries online:

noun

  • 1 [treated as singular or plural] the group of people with the authority to govern a country or state; a particular ministry in office:the government’s economic recordsuccessive Labour governments
  •  [mass noun] the system by which a state or community is governed:a democratic form of government
  •  [mass noun] the action or manner of controlling or regulating a state, organization, or people:rules for the government of the infirmary

Dictionary.com, includes “the cabinet” in its definition.

noun

1. the political direction and control exercised over the actions of the members, citizens, or inhabitants of communities, societies, and states; direction of the affairs of a state, community, etc.;political administration: Government is necessary to the existence of civilized society.
2. the form or system of rule by which a state, community, etc., is governed: monarchical government; episcopal government.
3. the governing body of persons in a state, community, etc.;administration.
4. a branch or service of the supreme authority of a state or nation, taken as representing the whole: a dam built by the government.
5.a. the particular group of persons forming the cabinet at any given time: The Prime Minister has formed a new government.
   b. the parliament along with the cabinet: The government has fallen.

Does John Key have autocratic delusions?  Here’s his depiction of his governing hand:

What title/caption would you give this masterpiece, in the interests of political accuracy?

“The Right hand yet again caricatures what the Left hand is doing”

“To avoid an existential brain fade, our Prime Minister has tattooed his name on the back of his hand”

OK, thanks jm. For myself, I was struck by how Key labeled his hand. Underneath all his diversions and smiles, he seems to be a bit of a control freak.

And for some reason, when I looked at the drawing, I was thinking Black Hand.

Perhaps it’s time now then to start talking about seeing John Key with no clothes on? That’s what you like doing, eh?

You’re right Lanthanide; this is a classic example of right-wing humour and creativity. Stunning. As ever your comment, however, is in a class all of its own……

The Hand of No Doubt Whatever I Write Here Will Be Analysed to Such An Extent That What The Hell I’ll Just Write Government And Watch People Write Entire Blog Posts About It

            “vast majority”?

Can you point me to that info, because all I’ve seen so far are 88 cases between 2003 & 2012. I’ve seen no breakdown of the cases by year. For all we know, there could have been only one case between 2003 and 2008…. or only one between 2008 and 2012…. nothing to indicate either way.

And so, two sets of fingerprints would be involved. And only one set for the MP in the case of the MP (and now 2) reporters.

So there must be an invisible hand somewhere?

            1. 11.1.1.1.1.1

              Terrorism raids -Ureweras.
Which government was that?, can’t think where else these 88 cases of “illegal” spying would come from.

              1. 11.1.1.1.1.1.1

Yes. Not a good thing under Clark’s watch. But I understood the warrants were legal? Were the GCSB involved?

BTW. I don’t agree with Jenny that the PM (Clark of Key’s) fingerprints were all over the illegal surveillance of the 88. Key’s fingerprints are all over the MP and journos’ invasion of privacy/illegal surveillance, illegal surveillance of Kim DOTCOM, and all over trying to make the illegal surveillance legal.

                1. 11.1.1.1.1.1.1.1

Personally I find this whole incident tedious and the illegal spying angle complete shit.
Dotcom could have been spied on by the SIS and all would have been cool but instead they used the GSCB because they didn’t think he was a resident.

As we all know because who ever wrote the rules around what defines a resident did such a shit job, the police/government used the wrong tool, Big fucking deal.

And as for Clark spying on New Zealanders I don’t care either, she did what she thought was right at the time.

                  1. 11.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1

No. The rules around who is a resident are perfectly clear. The rules that prohibit the GCSB spying on New Zealand residents and citizens are perfectly clear.

They didn’t get it wrong, BM, they cynically and deliberately broke the law, then justified it to themselves by saying they thought they were doing the right thing at the time.

However, another thing is becoming clear: that you and a small minority of mentally enslaved sycophants are so power-struck by authority, that when you bend over, you not only spread, but you pay for your own lubricant.

                    1. 11.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1

I don’t really see an issue if the GSCB spied on the fat German.

It would be a lot more practical if the SIS,GSCB,CONTROL were all combined, that way you don’t have these sort of balls ups happening.

Splitting everything into parts makes no sense at all.

                    2. 11.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.3

“It would be a lot more practical if the SIS,GSCB,CONTROL were all combined,”

That may be so. Or it may not. But we haven’t had that debate yet, and treating them as if they were all the same is illegal.

“that way you don’t have these sort of balls ups happening.”

There have been no balls-ups. There have been illegal activities by the PM, his staff, his appointees, and probably his ministers.

The only ball-up is that he got caught.

                    3. 11.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.5

There aren’t any – in fact, using the GCSB to spy on New Zealand residents and citizens is a threat to national security.

                    4. 11.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.8

Fuck it, just give whoever is PM ultimate power to do whatever they like with whatever resources are available, with no oversight and no accountablity.

                      Happy BM? Good.

Now let’s get back to discussing who broke the law in the real world.

    1. 12.1

How do you know he drew it himself? Did you see him do it? Don’t take his word for it because he’s a serial liar.

  3. 14

oh my lord. Karol, our Key-derangement syndrome has taken a whole new level with this weird piece of over-intellectualised clap trap.

There’s 101 real things to worry about that matter a hell of a lot more than a joke on a doodle. Get a grip.

      1. 15.1.1

Helen was pretty good at signing illegal warrants too…she even says that is was all fine and hunky dory because she was acting withing the law…“as it was understood to be”.

But then we do know she is a serial liar, art fraudster and thief. Oh add in and control freak and author of Labours present misery. Awesome legacy that.

        1. 15.1.1.1

Your spittle-flecked hatred is showing. Hold on to it, keep it close to your heart until it defines you. Everyone will see it was for the best, I promise.

          1. 15.1.1.1.1

            Hatred? LOL

I am loving it. At least another 4 years before the Red team will have any chance at the treasury benches and that fact is the greatest legacy the Dear Ms Clark left NZ.

    1. 16.1

Murray spotted it – If that is Keys hand, there are many interesting points about it, especially, the short fingers!

Probably about time someone traced the lineage of John Key, because if Obama and Bush can be distant cousins, and related to so called royalty, it would have to be odds on that some our home grown political fundamentalists, are all part of the same family!

  4. 18

The fingers are splayed as if letting go.
It is a LEFT hand and not the RIGHT hand.

Is John saying the Government is going to be a left one?
And he’s put it on Pink paper because embarrassment? or same teen slag for gay as in disapointed.

The hand isn’t even close to centered.

But the BIG QUESTION is. Investigation.
OIA request to see who came up with the color, what other colours where selected or was Pink paper fast tracked into the job. Is the Paper NZ made? Where NZ paper considered. Is the Paper recycled (%) and was that done in NZ.

How many and much was spent on prototyping.

  5. 20

The fingers are short because Key traced the outline.

At least someone had the sense to remove the crayon from his hand and give him a pencil.

  6. 21

I may or may not have had a hand in this …,but auchually I don’t remember a thing. Anyway that’s not my my real hand.
