Its the end of the Media as we know it …
Two recent media related stories made me wonder if there was now formal acknowledgement that the concept that media should fearlessly and impartially report the news is now dead. In America rich man with far too much money Jeff Bezos has announced that the Washington…

Some more thoughts about National’s vigilante justice policy
A couple of thoughts crossed my mind as I reviewed National's latest law and order announcement. First up I don't know how many people will actually exercise their right to vigilante justice. I have practiced law now for 40 years and spent lots and lots…

The Green Party gave their annual State of the Planet speech yesterday. The video replay is on RNZ or Facebook. Text of the speech is on the GP website. Speaking are the co-leaders, first Chloe Swarbrick and then Marama Davidson. It feels like a more…

USA – unreliable, undemocratic, and its citizens are not free compared to me
Read an amusing quora reply that rather crystallised my thinking on the US compared to here. It started as a click-bait clearly written by the usual American fool blinded by propaganda glare from their border mirrors. Isn't it hilarious how Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom,…

Vigilante justice is apparently our birth right
Amongst the most dangerous, extreme and downright stupid policies the Government has come up with is the decision to be announced today to allow citizen's arrests of shoplifters. From Adam Pearse at the Herald: Retailers and members of the public will soon have more ability…

Radio NZ’s bizarre handling of the Bayly fiasco
This morning's Radio New Zealand was somewhat perplexing. Early on Nicola Willis claimed that National was doing the right thing by showing humanity by allowing Andrew Bayly time to tell his family before releasing the news publicly. "I think there's just a little bit of…

Repaired RSS feed highlights minister’s failing portfolios
Last week, I pointed out that this government, specifically Internal Affairs under Act Minister Brooke van Velden, had managed to lose RSS communications from the Beehive to the world. See "Let me nitpick on the government RSS feeds". It'd been offline for about three weeks…

Come Rich Foreigners – New Zealand Is For Sale
Over the weekend, David Seymour announced the government’s plans to “overhaul” the Overseas Investment Act. The Act looks after overseas investments in sensitive assets in New Zealand. Its main purpose is balancing foreign money in our sensitive assets/lands/fisheries/forestries with the risks associated with that. This…

New school lunches waste appears to exceed 70% as David Seymour’s incompetence and PR reliance rises to the fore

Seymour is wrecking the school lunch program
The news concerning David Seymour's reorganisation of school lunches gets worse and worse. Seymour has shown clearly that not only is he completely lacking in understanding but he is proverbially full of it. Back in 2021 he complained about how many school lunches were being…
