        On the balance, yes. If you cannot control the integrity of your borders and instead let in tens of thousands of foreigners without considering the interests of your own citizens as your primary concern, then you don’t have a country.

      Same old pattern. Starve important core service of funds. Say it’s stuffed. Blame the organisation. Wait for it to collapse. Have urgent talks. “Emergency” funding injection. Say they’ve had “stern words” and now hopeful things will be different. Say “look at us, aren’t we wonderful for fixing it? Nobody can tell us we don’t care”.

      Have to agree that Bennett is a fucking moron Sanctuary. If protesters are going to be treated as terrorists, the logical solution is to blow the bastards out of the water. May as well be hanged for a sheep as for a lamb eh?

    If the government had any sense of morality they would be blushing from the tops of their heads to the tips of their toes that Legal Aid services are closing around the country.

    And, on top of that, a judge is complaining about the quality and quantity of lawyers doing legal aid work.

    Democracy can only function with a working justice system.

    I guess it’s no surprise that at the same time the legal aid system is being driven into the ground by lack of funding, the number of people in prisons is increasing. I guess when a person’s choices are to live in prison or in a car, the niceties of guilty or innocent don’t matter too much.

      I, too, am outraged about these cuts to Legal Aid. It’s sickening.

      Will the Maori Party take any action? They are Nats coalition partner.

      Even more Maori will go to prison without an adequate legal defense.

      I’m so impressed with the way the Maori party is using their leverage with National! (sarcastic)
