Just checked the covid worldometer as I do most days. Despite the 12 cases, NZ has gone down the country ratings for the number of Covid cases to 156. I hope people remember this before they vote.

Was driving National Park to Auckland this afternoon listening to Tim Roxborogh. On the topic of 10 cases today coming in on one flight from India he made the point that New Zealand's MIQ system works very, very well. Kiwis feel safe.

This is a system which the National Party wants to dismantle.

I hope people remember this before they vote.

It makes no difference. They still would have to quarantine for 14 days. This is the system which has kept us safe and at 5 deaths/million.

A change in government would see that figure explode. I hope people remember this before they vote.

        2. 1.1.1.2

All of them would have got on the plane.

They would have produced evidence of a negative test, and they are NZ residents/citizens. Whether the evidence would be reliable is another matter. (If they had returned a positive test they would simply have found a provider who would be willing to give the required result).

Apparently Judith Collins would solve this by taking over the health services of the world – she offers no details, which is unsurprising.

Well we could sample test at our border on arrival from high risk countries as well as the usual 3 days etc. Then if we get positive tests we could push the testing back to the departure point but still test here on arrival. If we get negatives on departure and positives on arrival 9 hours later then the airline would be on notice

There are faster tests coming through and even if it only stops some infections getting on the plane it also reduces the onwards transmission either in the air or on the ground.

I am not sure what the morality is of refusing NZ citizens entry into their own country if they are sick or infected with Covid.

Aside from this a relative of my is travelling from the UK soon. for her ethiad flight (which has now been cancelled) she has to have a covid test. She has rebooked for Emirites for which she needs to have a test to.

When I first found the covid worldometer New Zealand was at position number 96. Now 156!

I hope people remember this before they vote.

Absolutely Tony, my point at the top of this thread. I can't remember where NZ was at when I first started looking, but every two or three days our position drops. People would have to be crazy not to vote for Jacinda.

          number 5?

oh hold on, that is the times National has changed it's covid border policy

it certainly wasn't 8 billion was it, as that is the fiscal hole in Goldsmith's budget

        2. 1.2.1.2

People would have to be crazy not to vote for Jacinda.

Exactly. What would the rest of the world think, looking on, if NZ kicked out of office the very team that put is in a very privileged position? They would think we'd gone bonkers, and we would have. Completely insane.

I hope people remember this before they vote, and also give a yes to the team who organise and ran the whole deal at MIQ. Big responsibility, we are all depending on you. And yes to everyone whole keep themselves and everyone else safe when they get tested.

Thanks for that Ian about PM Ardern. It is great in these shifting, changing times to find someone who stands still and firm in their opinion, like a rock.

JC's campaign bombshell (would've been better if proven via psych evaluation):

    "I am not insane.”

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/300121396/election-2020-judith-collins-rules-out-coalition-with-advance-nz-because-i-am-not-insane

Riposte from JLR, her former Nat colleague:

“We are appreciating the support that is coming our way as the Nats continue to burn off their former supporters. Please keep it up Judith.”

The party on Thursday lost a last-minute bid to be included in Newshub's “Powerbrokers debate”.

Vernon Tava is nowadays a professional broker. He may have muscled in, but his ongoing low profile suggests not. Lack of group formation competence…

Collins said in Wednesday night’s debate she thought ACT leader David Seymour would make a good deputy prime minister. Labour leader Jacinda Ardern responded: “Jeepers!”

She was probably right not to add creepers as per tradition. Gun-totin' ACTivists may not have liked the implication.

You'd think, what with the dastardly popish plot to take over the world and all, that the Pope would've been keener to meet Mike Pompoo, you know, to catch up on how it's all going.

As said above, first time out of Auckland since Covid the last couple of days. Me and my two wore masks inside and on transport. We were the only ones among thousands. It was scary that people couldn't be bothered with masks and social distancing even at Level 1.

Note to Kiwis: Level 1 is not an excuse to ditch all measures. The August outbreak taught us that Level 1 is not proof against Covid…

Ardern and Collins getting good receptions on their walkabouts, as seen on the evening news.

What the reporters omitted to mention is that Collins is campaigning in National seats, while Ardern is campaigning … in National seats. She'll not worry about losing Whangarei if she wins Nelson.

It's been a pattern all campaign (Wairarapa, Invercargill, etc). Leaders will always spin their support ("we're getting good feedback on the ground"), but their chosen destinations tell the real story.

Dr custard is going to be a goneburger, looking forward to Nelson turning back to red. One of the reasons am super excited for Oct 17.

      1. 6.1.1

1993 Labour held it last, under quite different boundaries. 27 years ago.

On the 2017 result Labour would have to take all of the 1400 New Zealand First votes, at least 20% of Greens' near-10,000, and still need to take over 1,000 votes off Nick Smith.

Nick doesn't tend to make election mistakes in his home patch, and he can campaign hard on that dam now under construction.

      1. 7.1.1

        • Wellington GP Dr Mary English

        • Professor Rod MacLeod of Hospice NZ

        • Stuart Armstrong, a terminal cancer patient

        • Dr John Bonning, an emergency medicine specialist from Waikato Hospital.
        Being replayed now.

When is Judith ‘the Christian’ Collins going to campaign in Epsom? Or would that mean she is insane?
