But this is what long term policy implementation looks like. You have to have patience. You have to sustain political and executive will. You need multiple Parliamentary terms.

That may be true about the party constitution, but the sideswipe at Lees-Galloway is unwarranted. He was the victim of a hatchet job by Judith Collins and her acolytes. There would be a long list of MPs who had similar relationships but were not forced out.

I think we should leave him alone. As far as I know he never did anything illegal and even then, unless he is trying to get back as an MP, why would it matter?

Not really all that different to how Key and Luxon ended up getting to the top of the National Party, both effectively head hunted from corporate ranks rather than working up through party machine. National's candidate selection in Southland has more of a recruitment than party machine character as well, with the recruits usually prevailing over party hacks.

It gets a bit blurred when they work in an MP's office or Parliament staffer for years then get "selected" as a candidate. Recruited, or up through the Party?

For a self-employed person who might have been paying the minimum to KiwiSaver to get the once incentivised top-up, the shift to compulsory payments means going from contributing $1040 minimum to a compulsory 3% rising to 6%.
This means the bill for a main earner with taxable income of $100k/year goes from $1040 incentivised, to a mandatory $3000 rising to $6000 per year. I imagine these sums must be paid or penalties and interest will apply.
ACC payments for this person are already $1500/year and this idiot government wants to add another $6000 to that ordinary earners bill so rich people can continue to not have to pay their share.
This $6000 per year will be unavoidable and penalised so it is literally a tax.
This National Party policy will remove $6000/year from the tables of young families.

As for the last line of your statement! Did you weep for the poor deprived children who were left starving because that awful Mr Robertson raised the maximum tax rate on their Daddies' pay to 39% and left them bereft and hungry, as well as dressed in rags and without any shoes or a warm coat in winter.

The self-employed would be required to pay 6%. They organise that themselves.
Generally the government provides an incentive to comply.
Well, if you think his statement is accurate can you tell us what interest is going to be charged and what the penalties are going to be.
Where would the interest go to would also be of interest?
The incentive would not be interest, as no money is owed to government.
But it could be a fine for non compliance.
As has been pointed out, the introduction of the 39% on the top band doesn't affect this case. Even so, the difference a person earning over $180K is 6% for anything over $180K so no, I would not weep for those children.
I do weep for the kids of the tradies, creatives, and entrepreneurs who will now have 6% compulsorily removed from all their income and therefore unable to use that money in the business for new equipment, marketing, expansion, etc. Growing your business and earning potential is the surest form of saving for retirement, not stifling it with an additional bill for thousands of dollars.
What a way to kill off small business growth, as if Luxon and Willis have not done enough damage already.

I suspect moral principles lie between tribal & universal. They don't seem to have as much currency as when I was young. Plato was a patrician according to historians, one of the local elite in Athens. That he would advocate a 4:1 constraint ratio on wealth as fair and not feel personally threatened by the notion seems significant.

Met him and his crew at a Labour stall at the local vege market once, and he oozed entitlement then, yuk. The word around PN was not about his inappropriate affair, but rather that he put his thumb on the scales when it came to her advancement. That didn't come out publically, possibly because it was impossible to prove, but it did look very suspect.
On his TOP party position, reddit replies to the same original scuttlebutt post, presumably from party members close to the ground, are below. The first claims that L-G was headhunted by a friend to help with his knowledge of parliament machinery (the party having, well, no-one with that knowledge). The second outlines the party process for election of officials. Yes, it is run more like a business with a board than a political party, but is not undemocratic.
