An Open Letter to the Real Estate Whistleblower

We don’t know who the real estate whistleblower is, but we do know they have done New Zealand a significant service. Courage takes many forms, but risking your career to alert your country to a hidden crisis should be recognised for the bravery it is. Thank you, you’ve done us proud.

Gaming industry whistleblower

Very interesting article on Stuff yesterday, about ex cop Martin Legge and the information that he has on the practices of the gaming industry in NZ. Someone is trying to sweep this case under the carpet. They shouldn’t get away with it.

Leaked cables window into Superpower

Wikileaks latest coup is the release of a database of more than 250,000 diplomatic cables between American embassies, up to and including the highest security level “Top Secret”.  The cables provide a full, detailed and explicit account of many of America’s diplomatic secrets and the attitudes behind them.  It is a good long look through a window in to the mind of a Superpower.

Brave whistleblower in Ministry of Education

An education blog reports a revolt in the Ministry of Education, with a senior official in the Auckland region refusing to bully schools over national standards.  That is well and bravely done.  So much easier to keep your head down and “just follow orders”.  But these orders are very very wrong.

Whistleblowers

Currently the “hunt” is on for whistleblowers in cases both within NZ, and internationally. When a whistleblower takes on a big organisation over a matter of genuine public significance they are taking a risk, in some cases a huge risk. Let’s hope that there will always be people who are brave enough to make sure that we the people know the truth.
