A bit of good news from the provinces. Also it is an alternative to charter schools being a special character school.

A touch of old school- "The aforementioned standards included strict dress code – all black, including hair ties. Ribbons were not allowed."

Humility – "You walk in two straight lines, you shake the ref's hand immediately after the final whistle, you collect all the flag poles and the goal post pads. It's just what we call our tikanga, it's just that element of humility that was driven before I got there.”

Farmers raise stink over New Zealand 'fart tax' [The Guardian, 5 Sept 2003]

From the 2003 fart tax protest – "The Mad Cow Shouldn't Have Signed" – to a brain fart!

New Zealand accused of ‘full-blown climate denial’ over cuts to methane reduction targets [The Guardian, 13 Oct 2025]
Farmers praised the move, but scientists and opposition parties criticised it as ‘weak’ and ‘unambitious

Same old delaying tactics. Lux said "It's a case of slower to go faster",
when it's quite clearly a case of NAct1 going slower to go slower sad

Climate minister admits new target may breach global 1.5C goal
      [15 Oct 2025]
Lawyers for Climate Action has accused the Government of breaching international law by knowingly setting a target inconsistent with the global warming goal

[Climate Change Minister Simon] Watts also declines to say whether officials have said the methane decision is consistent with New Zealand’s trade agreements, which include provisions around climate and the environment.

Last year, Newsroom revealed officials had advised the Government its move to repeal the oil and gas ban would “likely” breach those trade agreements. The Government proceeded with the policy anyway and Watts was the minister in charge of the bill on the day it passed through Parliament.

Our group discomfort, and genuine worry, comes down to a lack of positive leadership. A leader who understands this urgency, and will support each facet that aligns with reducing carbon emissions. Obviously our titular leader is out to lunch. I want to be here when he clocks in, eventually, to reality – and leads.

The Coalition has elevated the raping & pillaging of the environment to a performative art with some notable star performers. Similarly, rejecting & repealing evidence-based regulations & agreements are hugely popular with niche audiences and lauded over by partisan critics who know where the butter’s made. Two directors of this charade are specialised in creating suspense through cunning use of smoke & mirrors. The producer of this shambles is betting on a blockbuster at the box office in 2026 and previews suggest the unthinkable might also happen here in NZ – it’ll take little Aotearoa by storm.

The Coalition is mining for overseas capital investment for free and ways to boost the sluggish domestic consumer economy that has a veneer of tourism mixed in. With a bit of luck it will also send a small ripple through the housing sector through increased demand for bigger and/or extra housing.

It’s clever politics and the numbers are small enough and temporary not to upset the jingoist cantankerous fraction in Cabinet.

Note the silence from those who were touting Trump's "cease fire" now it is already being broken, by Israel.
