One thing that has bothered me over recent months is the challenge of finding good data or articles about crime.

I have a sense it must be up even as police are pulling back from mental health calls, and failing to even look at thousands of retail crimes.

Gang numbers are also surging to record highs despite Mark Mitchell artificially culling the list.

And gangs are making double the profits under National with police unable to clamp down on the escalating meth and cocaine crisis across NZ (up 100% overall and up to 300% in some regions) and running in parallel with the homelessness epidemic.

Food banks are stretched, charities are closing and/or overrun, and the cost of living crisis hitting a majority.

So I was glad to find a summary

The source of the data is the Ministry of Justice

And the gentleman who posted it was blocked by the National Party after he pointed this data out to them under the following “advertisement”.

That’s not surprising because National are not interested in facts. They are only interested in perception and image manipulation.

As a friend once said though “National really is pro-crime”.

i.e They are big on slogans and punishment, but pro on the root causes of crime – disenfranchisement, depression, loss of hope, poverty, helplessness, mental health, child protection & domestic violence support etc. That matters, and the figures reflect it.

FACT: Ram Raids were already coming down under Labour

Thank you for your mahi, and for the facts. Like the Economy, Crime has not improved either. They are the most delusional Government. Talking Big, acting Small.

Sound Trumpian, in reverse, will Luxon send the troops in to fight crime? And the boot camps are another costly failure.

but National is focusing police time and effort on the most important priority for the country of taking patches off gang members, so no wonder lesser crime might be surging. we can all sleep soundly in our bed though knowing patches are being removed from gangs.

Rising crime as a result of tax cuts/tobacco subsidies and corporate welfare for some, austerity for the rest and good luck with those duopolys etc kids.

I'd consider what they've done to our waterways a crime given it will cause harm before we start in on their punitive behavior to those in need, the focused cuts etc.

Not collecting the data is pretty standard national party practice now, hey why not game what is there by removing categories as crime that'll lower the stats also.
