Ad provides some thoughts on the death of Jonah Lomu.
RNZ covered a Salvation Army report on housing this morning. These figures are a national disgrace.

Seems Ms Adams is the latest prepared to jump under a bus to save the beloved Honest John. Self interest is strong in this one.
A win for workers at the Wairoa freezing works with a lockout ruled illegal.
The severed limbs of National’s Dirty Politics machine are still twitching, with TV3 reporting plans to target Phil Twyford.

I/S at No Right Turn: “The House has just gone into urgency for two key (for the government) bills – the first to punish retroactively people who have already been punished, the second to steal from the poor.”
Keith Ng has been wading through some not-previously-released material on the Rawshark Rachinger Slater affair. No useful way to summarise it – go read it on Keith’s blog.
There is a suggestion that the Government may move to retrospectively take away the rights of beneficiaries and former beneficiaries to claim for benefits properly owing to them.
The Paris attacks are being used as an excuse for another ill informed debate about surveillance and encryption – which doesn’t address the communication channels that terrorists are actually using. The tools that our governments want can be used very effectively to spy on you and me though (as Key effectively acknowledges in passing).

Spinoff has the story.
The Herald has withdrawn a story that reported on Government pressure on the ERO to rewrite a report after what appears to be pressure from the Government to do so.
It is the last day of Scoop’s fundraising campaign at PledgeMe, and they are less than $1,000 from their goal. Why not help them over the line?…
The fallout from the Paris attacks continues. The American political reaction is as important as it is predicable.

I’m pleased about the Roy Morgan result. The last RWC was worth 2-3% in the polls to National. This RWC … nothing. And in the days since that poll, John Key has overseen an astonishing attack on the women of Parliament. I think we’ve reached Peak Key.
Scoop has released a second collection of documents from the Hager v Attorney General case. Among them is comment by a former Police Commissioner expressing surprise at the amount of resources put into the case and the involvement of a senior member of the Police Executive.
David Slack is on fire this morning with his take on our craven human rights record – in the form of imagined NCEA questions.
From Hollande’s reaction it seems likely that the terrorists will accomplish their goal.

National on 49%, GR + LAB 41.5%. Government confidence rating up 9.5 to 131.5.
Hopefully not ushering the beginning of the end for the European public’s recent empathy for refugees.
Two recent articles suggest that this Government is more interested in spin and PR than in achieving good. And one of the articles previously posted in the Herald has mysteriously disappeared.
The Herald seems to have accidentally deleted the online version of yesterday’s big story from Kirsty Johnson on how the government manipulates media perceptions. However could that have happened?

A National List MP has been snapped trying to heavy the Housing Ministry into funding a lift in her personal profile. Remember John Key’s ‘higher standards in Government’? Nick Smith’s Ministerial office apparently doesn’t care too much about about such trifles. Worse, the Housing Ministry has been caught trying to cover up for the Tories by redacting an OIA request. Here’s your Brighter Future, folks. Enjoy.
This petition at ActionStation is closing in on 5,000 signatures.
The Law? That’s not for Cabinet Members, the Law is for the lazy malcontents who don’t want to work hard.
Saturday November 14 is a national day of action against the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement. Details of all protests are set out in the post.
