Part I of a IV part series of posts on what we can do to hold global warming below 2 degrees C.
The Unitary Plan has been described as a panacea for the housing crisis by the Government. But will it actually address this most acute of issues?
Who will be to blame if untested, undetected, weak steel causes the collapse of a structure?
When the Auckland housing bubble bursts a lot of people are going to lose a lot of money. They won’t be able to say they weren’t warned.

Avoiding 2 deg C warming is a ship that’s sailed. Global warming is now happening at about 4.3x the previous long-run rate. And it might go up to 18x the previous rate over the next few years. That’s what the pundits call “abrupt climate change.”

Piracy is shifting from peer-to-peer to streaming. Big Entertainment isn’t shifting it’s attitudes at all – still stuck in the dark ages.
As the temperatures increase and the sea rises Chris de Freitas still claims that anthropogenic climate change is not a happening thing. And shows his inability to analyze by misinterpreting a Jarrod Gilbert article which describes climate change deniers as charlatans.
Real Estate agent Ray White has formed a partnership with China’s Lianjia to market NZ houses to about 260 million Chinese buyers. They say it’s the government’s problem – and they’re right.

As the biggest left blog in New Zealand the Standard is offering candidates in Labour’s upcoming party role elections the chance to let us know what they stand for.
The last day of the DNC. Hillary Clinton will give her acceptance speech shortly. Donald Trump, having realised that inviting Russia to spy on the States is bordering on treason, is backpedalling furiously. He may have talked himself out of the White House.
Update: LIVE NOW: Chelsea Clinton

Elected California Bernie Sanders delegates blocked from their seating by establishment cheering paid seat-fillers. A very Chinese political tactic.
The Talley group want the courts to order a union to stop telling the truth about how they bully, maim and kill their workers. Will the Standard be next in the firing line?
The Herald (Liam Dann) had a Terminator themed piece on the future of work yesterday. If only there was a party that was thinking about these long term issues!
Australia’s national interest test applied to attempts by foreign interests to buy Australian agriland and agribusinesses is deliberately vague. New Zealand could take lessons.

Plus she makes Fox News reporters’ heads explode.
What are the Nats doing removing a proposed requirement for affordable housing – exactly the housing that Auckland desperately needs!?
Day 3 of the DNC. Biden and Obama to speak later, Trump wishes he hadn’t spoken earlier. In what looks to be an embarrassing gaffe, the candidate of the 1%ers has requested help from Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails. In a normal election, that would be political suicide. This year, who knows?
UPDATE: Barack Obama LIVE STREAMING NOW.

Quite a day for the Democrats and their convention in Philadelphia. Hillary makes history, but Jill Stein and Donald Trump may be the main beneficiaries.
“I want to be very clear that we are talking about a responsible, carefully managed reduction in house prices over a period of time like 10 to 15 years.”

Auckland’s Unitary Plan will be available on the web at 1:30pm today, with a tool for checking the impact on any Auckland address.
A silver lining in the depressing chaos of the American presidential process.
Not often you’ll catch Metiria Turei and Don Brash in agreement!

Covering 100 years in 250 pages, Unity Books’ Tilly Lloyd’s review described Labour’s centenary history by Jim McAloon and Peter Franks as a ‘coherent skim.’ Prefaces and prehistory take 50 pages to get to the starting line. The 23 years from Helen Clark’s accession to the leadership to the present takes as many pages. Of the 32 persons interviewed 28 were Members of Parliament. Surprisingly Mike Williams, the second longest-serving President after Big Jim Roberts, was not included among them.
