And as a result of Luxon's spectacular gaffe, the Opportunity party becomes the lead story on both TV1 and TV3 6 pm news.

I met him, some years ago. He's matured admirably. Good at the start, very, very good now. Imo.
Bodes well. Maybe he's leader material, but maybe it's good for Labour to have great people in caucus who aren't leader too.
I think he will be the Labour party leader in December 2026.
Luxon criticised TOP as a high tax party, but failed to mention that TOP's high taxes would exist only alongside a UBI. The two policies go together. Gareth Morgan suggests that they should sit on he cross benches if they make it into parliament.

he called their UBI everyone in NZ being on welfare. They’ve got their talking points sorted.
NZ Super is [social] welfare also. Knowing how much he loves his entitlements, Luxon will be on welfare too in 9 years.

Welfare benefits are paid on the basis of some impediment to earning a living. National Super is only a benefit if we assume that advanced years are such an impediment. However, it is paid as of right to the recipient on reaching 65, whether or not an impediment exists, so it should not be considered a welfare payment. "Advanced years" may be an impediment to some, but not to everybody: many, on reaching 65, just continue working.
A UBI would be similar, but paid to the recipient on reaching adulthood.
Only the media have kept promoting TOP as a centrist party that will work with Nats or Labour, whereas they are clearly a left leaning party. Luxon has basically said a vote for TOP is a vote for Labour. And this is backed up by the ex Labour people in TOP such as Ian Lees Galloway.
Luxon knows what TOP will do in negotiation?

It's not about parties that Luxon prefers. Or you or I prefer. It's about who is there. The voters decide that, not him.
Imagine that the current coalition is one seat short of a majority. Would Luxon …
a) talk to Opportunity, with various options on the table, like the cross-benches, even abstaining on confidence and supply?
b) refuse to talk and accept that National will be in opposition?
Obviously his own MPs (and Seymour and Peters) would insist that he talks to Opportunity. Everyone knows this, including you no doubt.
Luxon yesterday ruled that out. No ifs, no maybes. No "wriggle room".

wondering if that would piss me off if I voted there. Might do.
To be fair to the Greens I think they only really campaigned for the party vote, and when compared to 2020 it really shows how heavily the whole country punished Labour.
