Great to see Fran OSullivan today in the NZHerald criticise NZ business leaders and boards for timidity, lack of ambition, lack of business leadership as distinct from l being lawyers and accountants, low quality management, risk aversion, acceptance of political pressure, and lack of mettle.

    Good on her.

My impression is that O'Sullivan has done this from time to time over the years – and then in-between has gone back to admiring these 'titans' and giving them the annual free propaganda gift of the "Mood of the Boadroom". She clearly thinks they are important in some way, but then keeps getting disappointed by them. She doesn't appear to have considered why that keeps happening – or at least she seems to think it is a temporary aberration that just needs a stern word from her to set things right. But what if it's not an aberration, but in fact a permanent state of affairs? What if it's just a symptom of something else? O'Sullivan doesn't seem to ask these questions because she's being critical from inside the same tent. This may be unfair – I've ignored her for years because to me she seemed so shallow and predictable.

What is Ecological Overshoot? (And why is it so controversial?) [29 Sept 2024]
The problem we have though is that economic growth has become so important to society, that it is unquestionable. As long as society and the economy are designed in service of economic growth, escape from overshoot by design is impossible.

One way or another, the planet will force us out of overshoot. The fact we can’t design our way out means disaster is inevitable. Facing a fate not dissimilar to that reindeer herd is terrifying. Chaos, war, and incalculable suffering lie on the horizon.

Stuff off 'overshoot' – life's good, and one day I'll cark it. C'mon guys, keep it together!

New Zealand is currently experiencing a cost-of-living crisis, with increasing unemployment and a contracting GDP alongside record numbers leaving the country, but The Treasury and Reserve Bank government departments expect New Zealand's economy to make an economic turnaround sometime between 2026 and 2030.

Very sorry to see Marjorie Taylor Green resigning from Congress.

Would've made an excellent nutjob VP to a President Vance.
